    I think there is a larger, very human, problem going on where anything less than perfection is a failure. And, I apply this to myself: I tend to be a perfectionist. I want everything I touch to be perfect if possible

    But this becomes a real issue when turned outward. Every politician must be perfect their entire life, or they should not get my vote. Among some communities: any member who even thinks about "the other side" gets banished

    To be clear: it is perfectly fine to have standards and red lines. But if your red line includes "I will not associate with any person who has ever voted for an imperfect-but-generally-harmless politician", that is a bit too far

    I guess what I am getting at: embrace the imperfections that make us human. Do not stop enjoying good-but-imperfect coffee because one time you experienced a perfect cup

    Example: we have a politician in my town, a Dem, who, given a choice, I would never vote for. While she was on our city council, my councilperson resigned and she refused to allow the city to hold an election to replace him, saying it was too expensive, so our district did not have a councilperson for nearly 2 years. This still pisses me off a decade later.

    In subsequent elections, she has been a better choice for other positions and I have reluctantly voted for her over Repubs.

    @pomegranate_stew Indeed

    I know I have said this before but: I really think that "hold my nose and vote blue" is not a winning strategy for democrats

    Yeah, at some point the stink is going to come through even a held nose.

    At least this person is not anti-human rights, it’s more of a personal grudge.

    The worst was the 2020 anti-abortion Dem candidate for US House up against a very religious, very, very right-wing incumbent. That one pained me. I did write to the state party chair in that case and expressed my disgust that this was the best they could come up with.

    There's a difference between "not being perfect" and supporting genocide, though.

    Some evils are TOO evil.
