I wanted to visualize some signal processing ideas of mine. Back in the home computer day, this would have been so easy to do in BASIC.
What to do? Write a C++ app with SDL? Do JavaScript things inside a browser? Hours and/or gigabytes wasted to draw some lines on the screen. Oh woe is me!
But then I figured, Emacs can do pictures now. Is there a programmable canvas or something? Well kinda, it turns out. You can create SVG objects, insert graphics, and put that in a buffer.

@larsbrinkhoff Is all that part of the new canvas stuff? That would be a reason to update permaturely to 32.

The blog post says there is no API for drawing things into the canvas, so for my purpose SVG is better.

@cibersheep It's related insofar it's about a more interactive "live" coding experience, so thanks for bringing it up!
I have seen Switch Angel occasionally, and I'm definitely a fan of her work. I saw another video the other day and thought about how the Strudel programming language with live graphical elements is similar to presentations on the Lisp Machine. Probably SmallTalk has something like this as well.

@cibersheep I was thinking how GUIs should be scrapped and rebooted. Replace with a rich text/object/live graphics model.

@larsbrinkhoff I?m a big fun of the TUIs and solved some problems shhing from my Ubuntu Touch phone into a machine because I forgot to bring a keyboard XD
