There is also Dunnet. It's a text adventure game, and inside the game there is a computer. You can log in on this computer and do things in the file system. It turns out the changes to the file system affects the the world outside the computer.
This is kind of the idea for the game Telehack. https://telehack.com/
Also for playing Spacewar.
MIDI mixer inputs to the LINC emulator.
Surrounding the display are eight knobs for analog inputs. One of them can be used to adjust the number of lines displayed above the default six.
Discreet Cosine Transform is like,
um excuse me sir, would you perhaps like some spectral coefficients?
I wanted to honor the LINC with something a little more fun and dynamic than a static HELLO(WO)RLD. I'm taking inspiration from the coding we did back in the 1980s. There's a bug causing a brief glitch, but that's part of the charm.
It's the immediacy of BASIC, but with Lisp instead. Win win!
I wanted to visualize some signal processing ideas of mine. Back in the home computer day, this would have been so easy to do in BASIC.
What to do? Write a C++ app with SDL? Do JavaScript things inside a browser? Hours and/or gigabytes wasted to draw some lines on the screen. Oh woe is me!
But then I figured, Emacs can do pictures now. Is there a programmable canvas or something? Well kinda, it turns out. You can create SVG objects, insert graphics, and put that in a buffer.
If you’re a corporate programmer, TeX is worth studying closely because it is like something from another dimension:
- you can take a math paper written in the 80s, typeset it today, and get identical output. Try that with a random C or C++ program and Clang
- the TeXbook is one of the best manuals for any piece of software ever. Compare that to your README.md
- a second book “TeX: the program” lays out the entire source code side by side with detailed explanations and cross references. Note that all of the code *fits* in a single book. Compare that to your million-line codebase with no comments that nobody understands
I ordered one of these. My productivity is going to soar.
On this day in 1969 ARPANET went live for the first time. It would later evolve into the Internet.
"On October 29, 1969, at 10:30pm Pacific Time, the first two letters were transmitted over ARPANET. And then it crashed. "
What if your emulator supported the MPRIS media player interface?
You could control the emulator from a media player, or the command line, and it can even show up on the lock screen.
Much of this can be repurposed as emulator controls.

The "L" in KL10 initially stood for "low cost". Along the way the project pivoted to make a high performance processor.
#OnThisDay 55 years ago, a study was proposed to make a new PDP-10 processor called the KL10. https://bitsavers.org/pdf/dec/pdp10/memos/720829_KL10_Technology_Goals.pdf
The admiral was leafing through the 68000 Programmer’s Reference Manual, when suddenly:

When an application calls into the Admiral Ackbar operating system: it's a trap!
@larsbrinkhoff Your patch is magic! I applied it manually to the current head (100b7eed)
I loaded game-tape.linc, AM 515, CV — no errors! —, LO, and now I’m playing Nim!
I have volunteered to present about the LINC and demo the emulator on November 21th at the Update computer club. @dfupdate@social.linux.pizza @dfupdate@uppsala.social
They have a more-or-less working PDP-12, and I'm planning to spend some quality time with it.
