@dbattistella Other people have pointed out that this is a generated image *but* it's based on a real one from ten years ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/comments/ail2z3/protester_uses_tennis_racket_to_return_gas/
The glasses face outfit is almost identical and the pose is quite similar to this one. Still, too perfect hands :_)
Anyway, great original picture, nothing to do with the France protests of 2026, but of 2016.
@taxorubio @dbattistella Because as always "gen" AI is not generative. It's finding things to copy from an incomprehensibly large corpus and altering them enough to make the copying harder to detect while blending them with other parts of the corpus.
@dalias @dbattistella Yes, that was the point of my post ;-)
@taxorubio omg, haven't seen it in such a long time, but yeah, saw it a lot in 2016, and it's still as great in 2026!
Oct 26, 2026, 6:51 PM@taxorubio @dbattistella oof, thanks for the catch (volley?)
@emma didn't mean to cause a racket ;-)
Of course it's origin was scraped data. Why should I be surprised? 🙄
Also I just noticed on closer inspection, GAI couldn't work out the guy was carrying a bag for the racket, so we just get a random piece of plastic/vinyl hanging off his hoodie 😖
Thanks for finding the original @taxorubio
@joltrast I had an edit back from the day where the guy was edited to be made out of smoke. When I saw the picture I had a neuron activation moment :p
@taxorubio Hurrah for pattern recognition!
