Meta hit with its BIGGEST FINE EVER → A fine bigger than some countries GDP! 🤯
A judge in New Mexico has ordered Zuck's Meta to pay $25 BILLION after a trial found it had lied to the public about how user data was handled.
This is very positive news, and it's great to see that New Mexico is holding Big Tech accountable. 💪👏

Another massive fine.
How is Meta still allowed to operate?
How corrupt is the Board to continue to allow the same management?
Often the massive fines are found to be illegal, either as a matter of court process or simple incompatibility with the rest of the legal system.
There are safeguards in place to check the power of a state that's seeking political points over justice, and that power is checked whether it's aimed at individuals or corporations.
Are you saying a legal process that found Facebook financially liable for thousands of dollars in harm to each of the entire population of Arizona was "point scoring"?
I don't dispute that often these fines are reduced. But I think that says more about who legislators and judges really protect more than anything else.
Well, it says more about the incentives that drive legislators and prosecutors that are all too rarely noticed in our day to day lives.
Legislators constantly introduce bills destined for the trash heap that signal that they think of the children, as the saying goes, that get them TV spots where they can pat themselves on the back regardless of effect or even legality.
Same with so many politically elected prosecutors around the country.
The more we recognize how cynical these folks are the more we can avoid falling for it.
Sure, we need to hold politicians to account.
Good government is the only power strong enough to stop the greedy oligarchs.
A question on all of our lips. This corporation must receive the death penalty.. it’s nature is a little different than if it were a fentanyl distribution company peddling it to everyone
@GhostOnTheHalfShell @TCatInReality @Tutanota
If corporations are people, then corporations can be executed.
@TCatInReality @Tutanota "How is Meta still allowed to operate?"
Easy peasy. By not paying the fine.
You didn't really think they'd actually cough up did you?
Oct 26, 2026, 10:20 AM@Tutanota Zuck must be having problems in his company right now, and he deserve it.
Oct 26, 2026, 10:21 AM@Tutanota@mastodon.social Hope this was NOT the last one and the following are much higher. 🤬
@Tutanota accountable? Getting fined less than 4 months operating income for basically a long major fraud? Ordinary people are jailed for less!
@passenger @Tutanota
thanks for the research.
As a reference, back when copyright laws met something, the bigCorps had laws passed to fine teenagers that made a copy of a single video 250,000$ or about 25% of their expected *lifetime* earnings.
The damage to millions of folks privacy seems way more serious so a 12% fine of only one years earnings seems small.
@Tutanota
I don't know about Europe but in the US those fuckers make people upload "video selfies" to prove we're human. At least they did several months ago the last time I tried to create a burner account.
Oct 26, 2026, 11:21 AM@Tutanota Well Tuvalu has a GDP of only 60 million USD so that doesn't say much.
Oct 26, 2026, 11:32 AM@Tutanota Should sue the scummy shitbag out of existence... would make the world a better and less toxic place.
@Tutanota But will it be enough and why not?
Meta will appeal it like mad unti $25 billion is pocket money.
@Tutanota
even the lied version is terrible, and now court found it's even worse!?
'43 million violations across 2010 to 2021', related to Cambridge Analytics.
This company should disappear from the earth
He was a "creeper" at Harvard, still a "creeper", but elevated to a Global Scale.
Oct 26, 2026, 12:08 PM@Tutanota vamooooo!!! 🥳🥳
@Tutanota Hopefully over time Meta will be just a local US company and other countries and regions will finally block and get ride of this thing.
@Tutanota Where's my cut?
Zuckerberg's Meta needs more investigations into its election-meddling-for-hire operations.
The fine could have been over $200B. Facebook is a $1.77 trillion corporation that believes itself to be post government. The fine was 10% of what it should have been. And Zuck is fighting it. I find it all disappointing.
@Tutanota Yes. More of this please.
@grumpydad Agreed! 👏🏼
@Tutanota this is pretty exciting, ive been pushing anti meta stuff on instagram for weeks now but Instagram is also terrible at showing anything you actually want to see, so to see THIS makes me really happy 😊
@Tutanota Nuevo Mexico FTW!!!
@Tutanota@mastodon.social
I'm sure bad news are somewhere around the corner, but today could run worse.
@Tutanota@mastodon.social Actually, Meta always lies. Meta is unscrupulous!
Oct 26, 2026, 3:16 PM@Tutanota they do not care they will not pay them as usual.
@Tutanota To be very honest, might as well leave Zucky boy all together and start something similar (open source maybe) and respect the freaking users' privacy.
The extent of their crimes and has everything to do with the size of the company and the nature of commercial social media.
The best thing that could happen to the world is to pull the plug on this kind of company in fact all of them and dictate that social networks work on a non-commercial principal.
@Tutanota jail time! They don’t care about fines
@Tutanota 25B put of a possible 219B.
Now look at their profit over the same period.
*cough* slap on the wrist.
@Tutanota Something tells me Zuck'll really pay up this time. It's the BBC reporting, after all. 🤯
@Tutanota
In other news, Meta reports a 26% increase in quarterly revenue…
