@RobotDiver @dymaxion I don't disagree, but it's a direct causal result and waaaay too many people seem to forget that. Instead they fall for the constant distraction theater and get pulled into the never-ending spiral of "now isn't the time for that discussion, you just need to vote for XYZ or you're letting the enemy win!". Which, by the way, has been the battle cry for anyone currently living's entire life. This is decades/centuries in the making.
Yes, people not participating is a huge problem in a system that's supposedly designed around it (I'd argue that's an illusion, but that's a different discussion entirely). HOWEVER, the reasons it occurs at a large scale can't be overlooked... and unfortunately that's precisely what any party always relying on being considered the lesser of two evils wants. Turns out when you don't represent the people in any way, betray every out-group that's convenient to throw into the furnace, and systematically assist in marching everything further into the abyss people (rightly) lose hope.
It's not about handing everything to the worst people (that's the exploitive over-simplification I'm trying to address), nor is it "both parties are exactly the same"... it's about the fact that the system and those in it are rotten to the core, ultimately serve the same masters ($$$), and above all else just want to stay in their cushy seats of power.
When you're perpetually fed a shit sandwich with the "choice" of arsenic vs sprinkles you eventually choose starvation as the preferred alternative. It's not a *good* choice, but it's what should be expected.
