    @greenmoonmoon

    i have a basic understanding of how it works and it amazes me it does.

    it seems ironic that ai may end up destroying real knowledge, reduce peoples iq, and destroy the internet, while damaging the earth and cause another great depression.

    "You have become the very thing you swore to destroy"

    either ai works, and we lose our jobs, or it doesn't and the economy crashes.

    i am yet to see an upside to this.

    i think it is great in specific case uses as a tool in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing.

    but just scaling it up and it magically becoming sentient seems a pipe dream.

    @amiserabilist from my own experience, it is a pipe dream, what they call AI is cannot become sentient... It's hard to explain but that thing, wasting more money and resources than any other projects in history is lacking pretty much everything to make it conscious. It's a sofisticated chatbot.
    It's fooling people the same way ELIZA did in the 60's.

    I think the whole thing exposes how much of the industry is ran by people who don't have the competence to do so.

    If I remember correctly, till the late #90s many here in #Pakistan were talking to ELIZA and perhaps even thought like everybody else that she was sentient, I remember a friend of mine introduced me to the program in 2000/01 and I remember that many of the questions we asked as a kid got some strange answers (it does not help that our English langauge skills were limited to a 9 year old) but we never believed Eliza to be sentient/intelliegent at all 😐
