@deadsuperhero grub is also a slang term for food in Britain..
(I'm curious also as to which of these large displays are Linux-compatible...)

@vfrmedia @deadsuperhero
it's a slang term for food across the anglosphere wym
@LeBonk @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero The fucking Brits think they're special.
@DL_Draco_Rex @LeBonk @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero usually that's an American birthright
@odr_k4tana @LeBonk @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero Where do you think we got it?

Same place y'all got "grub"
@vfrmedia @deadsuperhero I see these every now and then at fast food places. It's a variant of Ubuntu that is used for fast food menus and POS systems, sold and serviced by a for-profit company, of course.
@ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero When I worked at Pizza Hut in 2010 our POS and back of house systems ran on SuSE.
@linuxandyarn @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero I used to work at Starbucks around the same time. The computers then ran on Windows 98 with the actual POS being a DOS 7 program. I had several other jobs after where I had to use DOS, but never Linux.
@ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero I somehow managed to work only in Mac and Linux/Unix environments since the age of 24, more than half my life ago.
@linuxandyarn @ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero I recently saw an ad display at a #BurgerKing that had a #KernelPanic due to a corrupted #initramfs…
@linuxandyarn @ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero in 2016 i worked at the McDonald’s of my city; they used windows 2000 to process earnings and stuff. It was so slow that an iPhone 5c of the time would have done the task much faster.
@ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero piece of shit systems? I don't know what else POS stands for
@lackattack @clf @ned @vfrmedia @deadsuperhero granted, #POS systems are usually run on relatively shitty hardaare even when they are freshly announced.
@vfrmedia Most of them work well! Because most of them are VGA. A lot of the specs were designed around DOS machines, and changing spec in any industry is difficult.
Nah. They don't accept ANSI sequences, unless there's an added preprocessor machine.
Tends more to be VGA text mode, than tty emulation.

So & what about:
Grub rescue>
Starved to death..? 😉
