    When I was a kid, I learned that World War 2 started in Sept 1939, after the invasion of Poland, and it used to piss me off when I heard Americans say it started after Pearl Harbor in 1941.

    Then as I learned more, I realised that thinking it started in Sept 1939 was a Eurocentric point of view, and it could be argued it started with the Second Sino-Japanese war in July 1937, or the invasion of Abyssinia in 1935, or of Manchuria in 1931.

    Anyway, not sure why I'm thinking about this now.

    @louisa_ 😬 well (Eurocentric view), certainly Germans are already saying “we are not yet at war, but we are no longer at peace”.

    @clarissawam 😬 indeed. It definitely feels like that - an instability in the world order, us all just waiting for the other shoe to drop.

    In the meantime though, there are kittens, big and small.

    @louisa_ ☹️

    I've been thinking about this. I think we're definitely in the "why did they carry on letting this happen when there were so many lessons from history they could have learnt from?" stage.

    @louisa_ something I subscribe to is of the opinion that ww3 is under way already, it's just that nobody has realised yet
