A neighbor shared two short documentaries made by students about how the ICE invasion impacted students in Minneapolis. Folks on Fedi might like to see them.

The first one is face-to-face interviews with students at Roosevelt High, the place where Bovino and a bunch of unhinged agents stampeded school grounds hours after ICE murdered Renee Good:

As always, there’s something uniquely powerful about hearing young people speaking in their own voices without being run through the filters of news editing and high-polish production, just rough and heartfelt and true.

And…especially that first video where you can see the faces, I just cannot express to you how •extremely• Twin Cities the vibes of all these students are! This is my home, I see it so clearly in these videos.

The amount of unaddressed trauma here in MSP is hard to fathom. We fight so hard in part because the fighting is what keeps us afloat. How do you respond to something like this? How do you survive? You keep moving. No matter how exhausted, you just keep moving.

@inthehands I hope these videos inspire students in other schools to make their own films. We have a local school that does senior videos every year and they play at the local movie house and they are very powerful. They always have a timely social activism focus.

@inthehands If our country an hang on until high school students become voters we might have a chance. Bravo to these wonderful kids.

I feel exactly the same way about my students (college). The upcoming generations have some amazing and wonderful people.

Whenever I hear someone lamenting how terrible young people are nowadays, and it all sounds very concerning and very plausible, I try to ask if the young people they personally know are like that. Almost always: no, not the ones they know. The ones I know seem fine too. But a lot of people are deeply concerned about big, widespread problems they’ve heard are affecting whole generations out there somewhere, just outside their own social circles.

There’s always a whole industry of people making a mint off of falsely validating these ill-founded general concerns about Young People Today. Jonathan Haidt is a prime example in my sphere: lots of well-dressed-up writing that sounds informed and evidenced and is just a steaming shitpile.
