@penguin42 More common is a street sign on a pole that says "PED XING" (pedestrian crossing).

The word "pedestrian" is also odd. I was on a city Pedestrian Committee. Which I guess is clever naming, since "pedestrian" doesn't sound impressive or important, so only people who really cared about the issues would seek the role.
