Suddenly my very old external DVD reader/writer (manufactured 2005 !) doesn't detect neither normal CDs nor audio CDs but just DVDs. For some DVDs it reports unrecoverable errors. There was no problem with audio CDs about half a year ago. Of course, I was surprised that the device did even work after 20 years since the production date. But I hoped to use it even longer.
I can just test audio CDs and normal CDs with mp3 files in our Musicplayer and the CDs I tested do work in that player. What do you think about it. Is it the external device which is now finally broken or something else ?
I tried to clean it from dust with a hairdryer to no avail. I used several Linux kernel versions for the tests and all gave the same result: "no disk inserted"
