Suddenly my very old external DVD reader/writer (manufactured 2005 !) doesn't detect neither normal CDs nor audio CDs but just DVDs. For some DVDs it reports unrecoverable errors. There was no problem with audio CDs about half a year ago. Of course, I was surprised that the device did even work after 20 years since the production date. But I hoped to use it even longer.
I can just test audio CDs and normal CDs with mp3 files in our Musicplayer and the CDs I tested do work in that player. What do you think about it. Is it the external device which is now finally broken or something else ?
I tried to clean it from dust with a hairdryer to no avail. I used several Linux kernel versions for the tests and all gave the same result: "no disk inserted"

I have updated Linux Mint several times., e.g. from version 20 (or so) to now 22.3.
The i386 architecture is left over from the old versions. If I re-install the OS (root filesystem) instead of running an update in-place will the i386 architecture installed, again, or just the amd64 architecture ?
Of course, I always do a full backup before any updates of OS versions, so I can get back anytime. Just want to know what others have done to remove the i386 packages and architecture. I found several how-to's on the internet and did a apt-search .*i386 already.
Steam software can still require some i386 packages, but I don't have that installed. The app-images I use should work, anyway, I think

Dumb question ahead:

I use Libreoffice and want to get rid of the automatic replacement of quotes, i.e. " is replaced by « and »

I love the Linux Mint (cinnamon) update manager.
Please tell me, which repository
is not reachable !?!?☹️
I can connect to the mirror I use (mirror.init7.net) via Firefox without any problems.

openssl s_client -CApath /etc/ssl/certs -connect imap.hispeed.ch:993

#hispeed #sunrise #k9mail #thunderbird #linuxmint

Schon wieder ?

The certificate for imap.hispeed.ch does not come from a trusted source.

Auf Deutsch in etwa:

Hier die Ausgabe von

auf meinem Linux Mint 22.3

Sieht das gut aus ?
Vermutlich nicht.

I am using Nextcloud 32.0.11.1 on Armbian (bookworm based) running on bare metal - no docker. The nextcloud service HPB is down, the AI workers are disabled.
I don't care about "HPB down" because everything I need just works.

An update to trixie (successor to bookworm) is offered via the command

'sudo ncp-dist-upgrade'

I have read some bad stories about the migration from bookworm to trixe like
replaced "cron" by systemd/timed" etc.

What is the experience of other users in this environment after the update ?
Do I have to fix the "HPB down" problem prior to the update ?
DO I have to enable the 5 AI services prior to the update ?

#nextcloud #nextcloudpi #armbian #fedihelp #bookworm #trixie

An error message shows up:

Error: Class \"OCA\\DAV\\Connector\\Sabre\\ExceptionLoggerPlugin\" not found at /var/www/nextcloud/remote.php#40

The class does exist and is implemented in
/apps/dav/lib/Connector/Sabre/ExceptionLoggerPlugin.php:class ExceptionLoggerPlugin extends \Sabre\DAV\ServerPlugin

Is the search path for classes wrong ?

Here we go again: After the last update of #armbian the #nextcloud error #HPB down appears the second time in two weeks. The only relevant update was for the #redis server. I can do almost anything except uploading files from clients, e.g. android. This time there is no error in apache2/nc_error.log
Error in nextcloud.log:

Error: Failed opening required '/var/www/nextcloud/apps/calendar/composer/../vendor/autoload.php'

The file does exist, though:
# ls -l /var/www/nextcloud/apps/calendar/composer/../vendor/autoload.php
-rw-r--r-- 1 www-data www-data 724 Jul 22 16:23 /var/www/nextcloud/apps/calendar/composer/../vendor/autoload.php

Someone any idea for a solution ?

Yes, just restarting apache2 after changing the "snake-oil" configuration in apache2 to the letsencrypt certificate is not sufficient.
You have to reboot the nextcloud server.
I don't know where the server stores the certificate information and how to restart nextcloud and remove all "cache" entries.
Feels like Windows NT 4.0😯

Last update to nextcloudpi version 1.57.0 destroyed my valid, not self-signed certificate (from letsencrypt) and now it is using this invalid certificate for all clients !
I replaced the "snake-oil" certificate with the correct one in the apache2 settings but each client still complains about this certificate and needs an exception.
Yes, I restarted apache2 and there is no visible problem on the server.
Do I have to reboot the server in order to get the correct certificates into the clients ?
Any hints ?

Goodbye tusky.
No images shown unless I show the thread. Now, no avatars anymore in display.

Edit: changed to mastodon client and everything works again. If time permits I try to downgrade tusky. For now it was way easier to change the client.
