    Especially today, I would like to cry it out loud. I read so much fake news on Mastodon today. Screenshots from fascist platforms, posts of aliases from there, no sources, no fact-checking. And people on Mastodon are not better than elsewhere: outrage posts get boosts automatically. 🙄

    @NatureMC you're right, but it's also transparently obvious that certain people just share things like 'the ru datacentre killed all the bots' just for the lols. Just like carrots improve night-vision. 🤞 🙏 It's just like all the other memes, really; not a huge problem, I feel.

    @toots In a time of disinformation and propaganda we should be aware not to become a part of that problem!

    Perhaps you better read the article before: It's about journalism and media, written by a journalist.
    There's a big difference between a lol-image and a post pretending to tell the facts!

    I really appreciate your summary of the media landscape in the piece, by the way: steady.page/en/naturematchcuts

    It surprised me to learn that people don't realise there's a difference between reputable – what we call "broadsheet" in the UK – and tabloid news outlets. Maybe we could even see all our current social media platforms, including Mastodon, as tabloids, while my pipedream from earlier, which doesn't yet exist for people, would be the equivalent of a broadsheet? Could help explain these people's "blinkered" perspective?
