    12 of a possible 12 hurrah!

RRtY is an award for completing one 200km (or longer) ride in each consecutive month of a year.

That's my third series, but the Audax website tells me I can't have a new sew on cloth badge till I've done 5. The feeling of mild jeopardy always increases on the last couple of rides in a series.

Today's loop felt more like June than October in the afternoon sun.

A nice non dramatic way to finish riding the first DiY loop I ever plotted & possibly still one of the nicest.

Hops, vineyards, very moneyed horseracing studs below Newmarket and a homebound leg North across the fen past Ely cathedral.

The cycle "paths" from Wicken to Ely are sorta disintegrating back into the earth. So that bit is quite gravelly nowadays.

A view across the fen towards Wicken. Flat marshy grassland and a big open sky. There's a white dirt cycle path in the middle of the frame.

@markn Congratulations. I only managed the one series over 10 years ago now. I am thinking of going again, I did a 200 in September, but wondering if I might aim for a Super Ranndoneur series instead next year. I seem to get too many distractions.

@Blackhound thanks & good luck whatever you decide. I think you should have a bash again. I'll cheer you on.

I find RRtY easier than SR, even a grim winter one. Mostly that's because of the flexibility around when you ride & the fact you can draw your own route and ride from home. But, the flip side of that is it's easier to not let it happen - because you have a less solid commitment.

I've done a few SR series, but I find the longer ones tough on my own. I think the novelty of the new (in a different part of the country) helps with motivation for those too. The problem with that is the travel. And bikes on trains in the UK are a bit of an inconsistent 'mare.

@markn I agree with all of that, the last few years I have got worse at putting stuff off and run out of time. In part it is too many little challenges I have set myself.

I have done a diy 400 but balked at a solo 600. Over the last few years I find myself riding on my own anyway but it is nice to know someone might be at a control or at the finish. ( 5 audax points this year, the same as last year)

@thechildofroth great to see all your rides together like that. I think your light blue one almost goes past our house.
