Forget just supermarkets, this should be a law for all stores with self checkouts!!! We’d see how long before companies started ripping them out or hiring more staff…

@bradthornborrow don’t use self-checkout. Skip the machine. Go to a human cashier. Look at their name tag. Say ‘Hi so-and-so. How are you today?’Those few seconds of friendly human interaction can make a big difference in your day. And it shows the company that they are needed and appreciated. It helps them keep their jobs. Humans employ humans.
@bradthornborrow BOOM 💥
@bradthornborrow You should get at least an employee discount.
@bradthornborrow I love this idea. Good luck making it happen. I never use self-checkout if a cashier is available. If not, I make a lot of mistakes etc etc so that it backs up the line and causes at least one employee to appear to unscrew my checkout; better if two show up so other people don’t have to wait. Also, I say aloud so others can hear, “we didn’t have these problems with real cashiers”
You mean, rather then doing someones job for free .... ?
Oh this is genius.
@bradthornborrow that looks like a fee to use a cashier to me
it means paying an extra 9% for people who can't use self-checkout
@lufthans I disagree, anyone can ask staff at self checkout for assistance, right?
@bradthornborrow I don't know I generally refuse to use it as I don't like consistently being accused of stealing ( please place item in bagging area after having done so )
At a hardware store that had only self-checkout I got assistance eventually because one person 8 machines ....
@lufthans Same, I’ll generally leave before using self-checkout, just out of the principle of it…
@bradthornborrow yeah, I generally do
At the hardware store it was the only place I could find a part I needed, I left some items out that weren't time critical to reduce checkout annoyance
Late one night at a grocery store they were shutting down cashiers as I was in line, I was told the cashiers close down 15 minutes early
They kept the cashier in place for those already in line at 15 to closing, I told her I would've walked out on the very full cart elsewise
