I use a RB4011iGS+ as my main router. It's a real router with things I'll never use like BGP & OSPF but tons I do use like how each port has independent l2 config (group them how you want) and other stuff like wireguard support. Now that 2.5G fiber ISP services are affordable here the SFP+ port is handy too. I'm a big fan.
Sep 30, 2026, 4:30 PM@tomkeddie Looks like a nice router! I've been using OpenWrt for a long time so it's interesting to see how commercial stuff works. The MicroTik interface gives me a much better feeling than the low-end managed Cisco and Netgear switches that I've tried before.

If you've ever used a real cisco (with the real ios) the microtik routeros command line will be familiar. It's super powerful but I mostly use the GUI. A complex cli used a few times a year can be tough to master.
