In the last week, KiCad stopped working on both of my Linux systems. On the Ubuntu laptop, the interface has huge delays and Gnome keeps asking me if I want to kill it. On the Kubuntu desktop, it crashes when trying to load a file, after warning that it can't parse a css style file inside of a snap firefox install. The first one is probably a wayland incompatibility, I'm a little surprised their official recommendation isn't to just give up and run it on Windows.
Are there any quiet zones that are not phone-free zones (or vice versa) on DB trains?
May the (literal) cat distribution system deliver you on the eve of #caturday
The official advice from UPS is that you should not use their online commercial invoice generator if you are sending an international shipment (which is the only case when you would want to use it)
The supply chain hacks on albert heijn were pretty serious, the attackers apparently stole all of the salts. (photo courtesy @Honghonglu )
adventures in non-linear lighting control
In retrospect, these X2-DFN transistors were a bit too aggressive of a choice for this particular design.
Made a custom key map for @brainsmoke 's excellent 3x3 macro pad, specifically for doing KiCad layout. Most common commands are single button presses, with related functions accessed using the Alt modifier. The keypad generates Ctrl+numpad key presses to avoid interfering with existing shortcuts, and KiCad has an extensive hotkey system that is easy to integrate with, without removing existing commands. https://github.com/brainsmoke/usb_proto/
@revspace And indeed it was! Thank you for the wonderful afternoon.
This is probably the train to @revspace
Yaay! The €40 MicroTik RB260GS switch has a built-in IGMP querier. I haven't used any of their gear before, but at a first impression it looks low-overhead and no nonsense.
As a computer user, do you ever change read/write permissions on your personal (ie not system settings/services related) files?
May you entertain a pleasant company in the drawing room before retiring to your bedchamber for an afternoon nap this #caturday
After some effort, I'm able to construct a reasonably accurate SPICE model for these LEDs, using measured I-V curves over temperature. I'd prefer a more sophisticated model that allows for dynamic temperature simulation, maybe next time?

If you happen to have an ASEQ instruments LR1-B spectrometer, here's a pure python driver for it: https://github.com/Blinkinlabs/aseq_lr1b
Helaas!
Physically replacing the battery on my phone: 30 minutes . Moving my messaging app profile back from the temporary phone to the repaired one: 2 hours and counting.
Working on a test setup for LED parameter extraction over temperature. I'm using a peltier element to heat/cool a block of aluminum that the LED is mounted to. The LED is powered using a fixed 10mA supply. The most important bits are probably the change in peak intensity (which correlates to lower efficiency), and the Vf drop. I need to work out a faster way to measure IV curves so that I can measure higher currents without adding too much self-heating.
I made a breakout board for TI's tinly LM36011 LED driver. It's designed for cell phone camera LEDs, and features an I2C controlled current source to power the LED ('torch mode'), as well as a short duration 'flash mode', that can bump the current up to 1.5A. Paired with a nice power LED it can put out a lot of high quality light from not much space.
