When I wrote HTML for People, I envisioned non-tech people learning it because knowing HTML is a generally useful skill in information work.

But AI kinda ruins that. Fewer non-tech people want to learn HTML.

But it seems to have found a niche audience among people who still want to learn HTML despite having access to AI. That makes me feel better about it.

I’m glad I wrote it when I did because I’m not sure I could have stayed motivated to write it in 2026 with the proliferation of AI options—whether for writing HTML or for learning it.

@bw it’s the best resource for learning HTML and I’ve recommended it as well. Thank you for creating this, I really appreciate it 🙏

@bw I'm glad it's a thing that exists. I believe that it's this sort of guide that provides an escape route for people from the sinking ship of the techbro/AI/billionaire internet. A way of going back to a more useful, entertaining, and socially-functional internet.

@bw It's an awesome resource and I'm glad you wrote it. One of the first things I did after discovering the web a hundred years ago was to buy a book on writing HTML. This is both a good refresher and brings back some fond memories. :)

@bw this is awesome!! At least in the artist communities there's a definite growing interest in html/css because of ai so rampant and social media being.. what it is. (I'll actually be running a crash course workshop on it later this year!) So it's really great to have resources like this out there. :D

@bw bought an html book in 95 and am still fueled by the interest in computers it (re)ignited then. The web just blew me away. Now I started to use Zettelkasten looking for the same hypertext joy.

@bw Definitely glad you did! It's so well done, and there is always going to be value in learning how all of this stuff actually works.

    So, thank you!

@bw thank you for creating this, I must say 👏👏
I have sent it in the past to several people who asked me how to make a web, without any knowledge prior, and it came very handy for them to learn across

@bw When I was setting up a volunteer organization's website, I couldn't tell who would be maintaining it 5 years from now. I intentionally chose simple.css and recommended HTML for People. Why? Because I knew it would last. I couldn't say the same for anything other web technology.

Thanks for writing something that stands the test of time.
