Diablo II came out for Windows on June 28, 1997, and it was a Big Deal to 17 year old me and my friends. It was mindblowing then, and it still is. I don't love it as much as the first and never will, but it introduced some wild new aspects to the game. Even Diablo III and IV owe greatly to II.

But recently I found the soundtrack CD when I was rummaging thourgh my parents basement. That and my copy of the Blade Runner point and click from Westwood.

@jake4480 Never got to play it. BUT. When I found that Kornel Kisielewicz had a roguelike version of it, I rushed to get it. It is unfinished, though, but highly enjoyable. I guess you already know this, right?

@josemachete79 oh yeah I've heard of that! I jump back in D2 sometimes, I have it on Switch and Xbox both, the Resurrected version, which is amazing. I beat it on Normal, Nightmare, I was trying for Hell but it's tough. To beat the game fully 3 times.. Whew. It's extreme. My main love is the first Diablo, one of my top 10 (maybe 5?) games of all time.
@jake4480 @josemachete79 Old games are often the best, for the pioneering of their ideas and concept. Is it true that the devs drew inspiration from Rogue? Or it's only a delusion of the roguelike community? I found the idea to have certain nostalgia attached to it, if you see what I'm saying. But sometimes rumors are held for real despite of fakeness.
@josemachete79 absolutely true - Diablo was heavily influenced by Rogue and roguelikes - definitely the same kind of thing, just made isometric. You can really feel it in the first game, too and then they kinda expand on it throughout the franchise.

@josemachete79 it's a seriously amazing one. Same with the first Diablo, which you can do free online and on PC here (hit Play Shareware) - https://d07riv.github.io/diabloweb HIGHLY recommend. Not as in depth as II but a great start, and always my favorite. I've beaten it with warrior and rogue - not sorcerer yet. It's definitely like isometric Rogue in a lot of ways haha. My brain is in this game. My phone background is the town 😂😂
@jake4480 Nice collection you got there. I'd say you are a true fan! I've never owned a physical copy of Diablo 2 but damn if that Battle Chest edition didn't always tempt a teenage edition of me when the family went shopping at Target on the weekends

@jake4480 I remember preordering that way back when, and getting not one, but TWO license keys in the box. Second one went straight to my friend. Good times were had.
@blindcoder hahaa YES!! I first played it over at my friends house pretty soon after it came out and was obsessed. Like the first but better graphics, so much more expansive.

@tom ahh yeah. That was one of my gripes with II. The stash, it's still limiting. That's what I love about the first one - the ground in Tristram is littered with loot I'm still keeping, an unlimited amount 😂🤣
