Mouse, with toe beans.

Going to bed very pleased with the results so far. Keep it coming America.

The weather is holding warm and fair, so it makes the apple tree pruning a little easier on the fingers. Got the first tree done today. It's a Red Delicious on dwarfing root stock and is (I think) about 45 years old. I don't claim to be any kind of expert on this subject but I plug along every year and DO get an apple harvest most years. This was the "easy" tree. The rest are bigger and will take more time.

With the start of a new month comes the start of a new season of #ProjectFeederWatch
Count season started Nov. 1st. This week we had 20 species recorded totaling 73 individuals. I was surprised that, even with all this unseasonably warm weather, we have at least 2 Dark-Eyed Juncos visiting under the feeders. They left here in March and usually don't show up here until almost December. To learn more about this project visit them here: https://feederwatch.org/about/

Rox, putting up her paw for extra awww.

Murz is still allowed in the crib, although poor Chicken* has been around today and got growled at and chased away and then barked after for good measure.

Although Chicken looked well fed and was only ever visiting us occasionally, so I expect she will be fine. Probably has another farm in her territory.

* Another barn cat that has been hanging around here sometimes, although a very shy one, hence the name.

It's crazy that I'm processing fresh picked tomatoes for tomato sauce from undamaged thriving plants in a garden in the Lake Ontario region of New York....in November!

Does anybody know what this berry is? And if it’s safe for dogs? Found this in my yard and can’t find one online… #gardening #garden #plants #berry

Had a closer look at the messy forest the last few days.

It was already messy when we bought it and the storm throwing a bunch more trees on top did not improve that.

The cars are all fixed and the garden pretty much done so I can get back to projects I was hoping to do last spring 😬

Like mounting this winch on the tractor so I can pull some trees, and/or the tractor up the hill next time it spins all four tyres in the snow (or mud).

As usual, the scrap metal laying around will influence the design heavily. There's also a second battery to add, a bunch of wiring and still be able to open the hood and not block the headlights.

Unlike a boat, weight in the bow is good for a tractor. That front frame is designed for hanging heavy weights onto.

Dear LazyWeb,

Is Kings Seed is the best place for getting vege seeds in Aotearoa NZ?

Any tips / coupons / referral codes / suggestions?

And in a nice distraction from the state of the world, today is last summer harvest day for me in #Jersey. Tomatoes are now all done and stewing on the stove for bottling; the few padron peppers which grew will get eaten today; last figs are refusing to ripen properly but that's OK - we've had a tonne of them. Feels like autumn. I'm now clearing beds ready to mulch with seaweed and woodchip - and thinking about when I can start planting seeds in my greenhouse for next year...

I voted two weeks ago.

But if you haven’t yet voted, make your plan to vote now. Learn where your polling place is, what the hours are, what documents you should bring. Not registered? Some states have same day registration. Find out if you can do that. You’ll get a sticker (probably, if you want) and feel good about taking part.

The titmouse nest box, fall edition.

Long afternoon of gardening, chopping leaves, mulching, and spreading compost.

Found my newly planted aromatic aster (Symphyotrichum oblongifolium) pulled out of the ground this morning.

Based on what happened to newly planted native plants earlier this year, I suspect a squirrel. I replanted the aromatic aster around noon, only to find it pulled out of the ground again a couple hours later.

Argh. Now the plant is surrounded with mesh to keep out whatever is pulling it out.
