I've been sitting here, trying to think of something deep and profound to say about #PatrickSteward and keep coming up short. So I'm just going to write and you'll get my typos and bad spelling and all.
#TNG was my introduction to Science Fiction. I can't tell you what episode was my first, but I remember hearing Picard's voice and thought to myself, "wow, this guy is so cool."
And he was.
TNG was a huge part of my childhood. I learned all the things people out here have said in abundance; How to be kind, fair, the difference between moral right and wrong, and so much more that I could spend hours writing this post and still come up with more. In X-Men, he taught us how to look pass the things that make us different to see the things that make us all similar and that is something I've carried with me my entire life since.
Outside of acting on screen, he was an acomplish actor on stage, and his efforts in humanitarian causes should never be overlooked.
He was a captain on screen and off, a teacher, a philosopher, and as someone who comes from a broken home myself, I've always had a certain love and respect for him and how he chose to go a different path than the one set forth by his homelife growing up where domestic abuse was the norm.
Truly, he was a shining example of the grace and poise we all hope to reach in our lives and it had nothing to do with that smoothe voice that instantly made one feel calm and at peace.
Fun fact, TNG is only a couple days older than me in age, something I've always had a quiet little chuckle for simply because of how much of an impact it's had on me. Science fiction came to me because of that show, and Science Fiction has been the life blood that has sustained me for the whole of my life.
Losing Patrick feels like losing a grandfather in so many ways and I'm having a hard time coming to grips with the loss and grief of his final departure.
My final thoughts as I wrap this post up. Let's all strive to make it so. A better future, a more tollerent humanity, compassion and kindness before arms and violence, and let us remember that we all have it within ourselves to change the paths of our own destinies.
Rest in peace, power and love, you most wonderful angel. Thank you for all the many years you gave us. Thank you for all the adventures. Thank you for all the important life lessons a damaged kid from the trailer park couldn't get from those around her as she tried to find herself. Thank you for so many memories. Thank you for all these things and so much more that my heart is too heavy to process tonight. You showed all of us what it means to age with dignity and may we all carry on your mission to give aid where it's needed the most, to speak for those who have not the voice to speak for themselves, and may we never forget that the most important thing we have in this world is the time we have within it and how we use that time.
You were my first captain, and you were the greatest of all who came after you.
God speed sir. Engage. 🖖
