i never thought I'd see so many people cry about other people building things and doing so while sweating less than they did. Especially if at the same time they say that they are doing it for the love of the craft.
To me, making things more accessible is the whole point. I'm not gonna lambast other people to not follow my own intellectual path or interests, nor am I feeling much if someone uses an LLM to clone something I painstakingly assembled by hand. Whoever thinks that you get any stolen valor people out of cloning something with an LLM doesn't realize that none of it will matter in 3 weeks when it truly percolates that some people draw stick figures and others don't.
I don't expect everybody writing rust to know the innards of the rust compiler, or anyone using an operating system such as linux to know how their power management works. It's fine! I'm still gonna give them credit if they spent 3 h copy pasting stuff from the internet including mine until their deep sleep works, even if I did spend months learning that stuff in more detail. They can be proud of their afternoon, they are not "stealing my knowledge" or "not giving me attribution".
Instead I really wish we could focus on tackling broader goals like: replacing all that legacy nonsense we have accumulated, we have so much legacy that it really took me "strip mining" a hundred different apps to realize what actually is possible once the wool of "software is hard" falls from your eyes. We can literally replace most of "user-facing" apps out there with a nice html document, no dependencies, no cloud, no whatever. We can actually boot desktop computers in 1 second. You can do something other than "windows and file folders". We can replace the firmwares of all the locked out "legacied out" "obsolete" hardware and realize just _how ridiculous_ it is to have 8 GB of RAM in a phone.
I wish we could go past the "but my puzzle-solving is worth of admiration" stage and organize a bit better, and get over ourselves and lock in.
We are getting slapped left and right every couple of weeks with new models and it seems like the opensource community is just running behind the truck lamenting it is being left behind.
