meanwhile Russian missiles continue to kill Ukrainian civilians and destroy energy infrastructure, every day

@_elena Oh, look, another one of the "they're on our side" corporations ends up betraying its users. Who could've seen it coming? 🙄

Basically, the "I'm opening an investigation into [political opponent] now that election day is a week away" is turning into a classic modern US politico late-election cycle gambit.

Which makes Obama's refusal to investigate Trump in 2016 seem naive at best, and Biden's failure to prosecute Trump immediately after J6 for insurrection criminally negligent.

(btw, weird shit like that makes me think the files Trump kept at Mar A Lago were Epstein files, not "nuclear secrets")

They'll keep on pushing #chatcontrol until they win. This makes me extremely sad about (European) democracy. Repeatedly voting on the same thing until you win is recognized as anti-democratic. And yet.

What’s it going to take to stop the media both-sidesing? I would have thought over taxpayer-paid Trumpian propaganda. But WRONG. So I imagined how these guys would cover Trump actually shooting someone on Fifth Avenue. The first 3: presswatchers.org/2026/09/the-...

Better headline for this NYT article:
“If It Doesn’t Involve Putting His Name On It, Trump Is Just Phoning It In.”
Subhead:
“Miller, Vought, and Hegseth Are Making the Calls Instead”
(and maybe they could do some reporting on this element of the story.)

America has turned into a torture-chamber for smart people.

"Blitz to find elusive voter fraud," says the fascism-blind #BrokenTimes, they who think we're only 3/10 of the way to election authoritarianism. No, he's on a blitz to fabricate, make up, falsify imaginary voter fraud to steal elections.

Dolly Parton was super rich.
Yet no one hated her because
of her wealth. Because she
didn't use her wealth to bend
rules and buy politicians to get
more wealth. No one hates rich
people. They hate greedy
people.

Sergey Brin is leading a $90 million ad campaign to stop California's 5% billionaire wealth tax.

He is $133 billion richer since Trump's election.

But that's apparently not enough. He'd rather children lose access to healthcare than pay his fair share.

Greed is a sickness.

Found out in the fediverse some time ago.

"Please don't think that you can stop a Nazi by pointing out hypocrisy or by pointing out that they are lying.

They know. It is a feature, not a bug.

When a fascist lies to you, they are displaying power. "I know I am lying. You know I am lying. What the fuck are you going to do about it."

When a fascist lies to other fascists, they are displaying loyalty. "I know I am lying. You know I am lying. We do this because it is how we show allegiance to the cause."

In this way, fascism is inherently an empty ideology. It stands for nothing. It believes in nothing. It can therefore lie about everything.

Except one thing: power.

Fascism MUST lie. It MUST deceive. It MUST play to baser beliefs like racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia and xenophobia, because it has literally nothing of value to offer.

They know this. We know this. That is why they lie."

@gerrymcgovern Forcing solutions on us that no one asked for. Capitalism at work.

The president of the United States sleeping on camera while its under qualified head of health services trembles his way through a rant full of lies about vaccines. Just as measles, once considered eradicated, is now at a 35 year high.

Welcome to America. A modern day kakistocracy.

Damnit, #BrokenTimes, use precise, journalistic language. Senators don't; Republicans do.

The problem with America’s legal system

To practice law:
—4 year degree, take LSAT, 3 year JD, pass BAR, buy malpractice insurance, total cost ~$300K

To enforce the law:
—Here’s paid 13-week training & a gun

To write the law:
—0 qualifications needed, a billionaire can buy your seat

Vote only for candidates funded by people—not billionaires

It's not just advocates who say this. Researchers, studies, and data say it. That's why advocates say it. Reporters can just say it, too!

John Roberts shouldnt be able to order a sandwich without being called a traitor to his face.

"Far left" = "people who will actually do something."
