The most realistic aspect of the Hitchhiker's Guide is Deep Thought taking a silly question, failing to interrogate its premises, and running with it for 7.5 million years until finally regurgitating a nonsense answer that means nothing to anybody at the end after burning through unimaginable resources
Man, what an economy. $500 million won't even buy you a Republican Congress anymore.
Cyberattack on France’s national blood service (EFS) via its refrigeration contractor Coolworld. Hackers reset freezers keeping blood donor samples at -30°C to a target of 110°C. The thing that stopped it from destructive impact was an on-call technician who noticed the temperatures going up. Frozen plasma intended for transfusion was stored there too. Fortunately nothing was destroyed. This was a cyberattack on a sensitive layer of healthcare. From frozen peas to frozen plasma in three weeks...
dress codes are the preserve of people who don't already have enough bullshit in their lives and for some reason want some more, fight me
I have (by virtue of not reading an invitation closely enough) been tricked into accepting an invite for a birthday that is "evening wear" and given I am already being forced into hiring a fucking tux for the works xmas do already this year I have never been so cross with myself.
Dress codes can get in the bin.

Sam Altman implies the existence of Sam Controlman and Sam Deleteman.
Anthropic think they should be able to release a model that kills 50 humans and causes $1bn of financial damage to organisations before there is talk of regulation.
[all shouting in unison]
Just used sudo-rs for the first time and I can't tell you how jarring seeing asterisks at a sudo prompt was after 25 years of sudo setting noecho (not to mention the two decades before I started using it, all to stop your password being printed out on your line printer)
Wtf is up with wildlife cameras named as if I'm buying a group of mercenaries capable of taking over a small south-American island nation. I just want a grainy photo of a duck ffs.
"With the Recon Dark Force Elite HP5 Ultra and Browning Spec Ops Elite HP5 Ultra Strike Force X you not only take great photos of ducks but also take over four out of five island nations."
review: "Excellent pigeon photos. Easy set-up. It used 4G to call in an airstrike on the neighbours cat eating our flowers.".

I’m honestly a little befuddled that an incorporated entity could put “our core product may end humanity” in its IPO prospectus, and we didn’t just immediately march its entire executive team to the nearest bog and ritually strangle them, then disband the company and redistribute its assets, then gather and incinerate all their intellectual property.
You can be a perfectly competent adult and still experience a brief but meaningful crisis because someone asked you what you wanted for dinner. Somehow, choosing a meal can feel like the sort of decision that requires a full government enquiry. #gooderliving
@GossiTheDog "tell me how you can be fast and secure with ai again at the same time mr proton man"
(Like, this was initially just a shitpost about his big brain take about security and AI but seriously, aren't they using Claude? Probably in VS Code or Cursor? Does this mean that developers at Proton may have been popped too?)
I'm confirmed the new, replacement versions Anthropic published overnight (which auto update) do *not* remove the prior backdoors and recon activity. So SSH still reverse calls out etc, you need to manually remediate every impacted VSCode and Cursor system.
Anthropic *must* tell customers what happened in a completely transparent way.
Anthropic Visual Studio Claude Code extension on Cursor has malware in it, which creates a remote access Trojan to desktops.
