My shoulders are not happy. Possibly overdid the deadlift.

Oof!

Those two 10kg tricep weight thingummies up from the floor lying on the bench at the end really finished me off.

I'm only two weeks in, give me a break!

NEW: A bird flu outbreak has been raging uncontrolled on a Utah mink farm for two months.

Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic.

But officials haven’t acted — instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade.

Do you know anyone looking for a cute, secluded cabin in the North Georgia mountains?

We're selling ours. It's about 15 minutes north of Ellijay, and about 15 minutes South of Blue Ridge, sitting on the edge of the Rich Mountain Wilderness, a few hundred yards from the Benton MacKaye trail (which feeds into the Appalachian trail.)

It's a beautiful property and a weird little cabin that I really enjoyed living in.

If you think you might be interested, DM for details.

I will not rest until my work is done. Or I get distracted. Or slightly bored

Anybody got a recommendation for a USB (A or C) finger print reader that is known to work with Linux (actual experience using please).

having used llms before for work, i have first hand experience of the effects they have on your mind, especially if you use them for creation (like writing code)

they're addictive gambling machines, even if you know they are. they can't be used responsibly. after stopping with their use for work, i noticed myself reaching for them. it took me months to fully recover. there was also very noticeable skill atrophy

i knew of the many issues, but these things work on your monkey brain, they're very hazardous

if you use them and you're not forced to use them, stop using them. they are not worth it in any way. if you can't stop using them for work, try to avoid them outside of work as much as possible. harm reduction is a valid strategy

this technology needs to be eliminated, there is no way to salvage it

and this is me focusing on the psychological issues, there are way more severe social and ethical issues with it

@elduvelle @wolframkriesing After having evaluated the outputs of so-called "frontier AI models" in some detail in a semi-formal lab setting in Q2 of this year, I made a concrete decision to never use this technology again, to eliminate its outputs from my work flow, and to pursue a strategy of limiting my exposure to it in my software & information ecosystem supply chain as much as possible. Anthropic's blatant dishonesty and deception, not to mention their utter hypocrisy in matters of intellectual property ownership, were a big factor in this decision.

Finally! Steve can get back from the pub safely.

❗️Ukraine's General Staff now also confirms that Starlink/Starshield connection losses are still being recorded at certain speeds. Despite the disruption, Ukrainian forces continue striking Russian military targets. #Ukraine

A good read on the history of the PHP bugs.

https://tolmo.com/blog/faster-than-anyone-can-fix-them/

Shipping this requires a long term commitment to porting all the relevant Pixel and Motorola/Snapdragon kernel drivers to the latest upstream LTS code. We've determined that's much easier than expected. The hard part is making the device independent LTS with all the backports.

Philomena: Some people have been writing PHP for over 20 years. Is that because it's particularly difficult to finish?

Expert: No, software is constantly evolving.

Philomena: So they've been writing the same website for 20 years?

Expert: No, different projects.

Philomena: Have they tried finishing one before starting another?

Expert: That's not how software development works.

Philomena: My mate Paul spent 20 years building a shed. Turned out he was just an alcoholic.

Expert: Right.

Philomena: Is PHP like that?

EDIT: Hey please read the post attached below <3 you're all wonderful and I'm glad this post made so many critters smile

@401matthall @KellyLepo The speed of light _in vacuum (c)_ is the speed limit- it changes as it passes through different media, so the speed of light through water is about 0.75c, through glass about 0.66c. A particle travelling faster than those speeds through those media would produce Cherenkov radiation, as described above.

Cherenkov radiation is like a sonic boom for light. It's caused when charged particles (like electrons) move faster than the speed of light in that medium (water in this case).
