Why use simple letters, if you can use chemical symbols?

We lost the #internet. In the last decades, what looked like a formidable
glimmer of hope for collective organisation and sharing of universal knowledge progressively turned into a hyper-centralized corporate nightmare of control and surveillance. Whether the “free internet” was a pipe dream in the first place, a PsyOp, or a parenthesis as quickly closed as it has been opened
is not the question here.

@stephaniewalter @WeirdWriter oh, the amount of people who pop up in wheelchair forums with a bright idea about stair climbing wheelchairs and their absolute shock to discover the technology known as a ramp

Gonna sound like a jerk here, but I feel like the idea that autistic people ‘overthink’ things is the wrong war around. No, neurotypical folks don’t think about things enough. Half the issues society suffers from come because the natural human mindset seems to be “YOLO let’s make this massive change to how things work without thinking about the consequences or details whatsoever!”

All the world’s cruelty cannot equal the bitterness of a fatherless child—searching for a pillar of support and finding only a void, 😢
while a mother is forced to wear the armor of protection alone in a society that shows no mercy.💔😭😔
Please Don't leave me alone🙏

In practice
* Contributions including LLM-generated content will be declined.
* LLM-generated text (e.g. commit messages, issue comments, forum posts etc) generated by LLMs will be flagged, and ultimately deleted.
* We encourage asking each other questions and working through problems to promote collective knowledge and creative ideas (never telling each other to "just google it").
* We strongly discourage others from forking/importing our projects into corporate AI platforms, including Microsoft Github.
* All contributions must be submitted by a person who understands the changes, is happy to answer questions about them, and where possible, help maintain the code in the future.
* In community discussion channels (at the time of writing, this refers to the uzu discord server), all discussion (including criticism) of LLM technology and use should be kept to designated channels

This hurts, because, it's true: "Silicon Valley will spend millions developing a glove that translates sign language into speech (badly), but they won't spend ten minutes adding Alt-Text to their images. They will build a headset that describes the room to me (poorly), but they won't use semantic HTML headings so I can actually navigate a webpage."

Wait, wait, hold up a second.

I just found out that lemons are not a natural fruit but a deliberately cultivated hybrid between citron and a bitter orange.

Guys! Life didn't give us lemons we made them ourselves!

Saturday El Niño update - Sea surface temperatures are still warming across Niño region 3.4 over the last week. Note that I finally had to readjust the scale on the map view, so it's not quite comparable to prior updates.

This was the calmest Raven from the morning. They seem to be most tolerant of human presence at the beginning and end of the day, possibly coinciding with their grooming and self-maintenance tasks.

Hello Mastodon. I made a thing https://edjefferson.com/localwiki/

After months of heavy droughts, many crops have been left dead which has threatened our efforts towards fighting hunger.
We have hope that with a reliable water source, we can grow crops, feed the need and support our community without having to worry about drought
We're raising funds to establish a permanent water source for our farming activities. With your support, we can make this happen.
