HIstory-News Flash! President Roosevelt's envoy to Germany has called Adolf Hitler a humanitarian, and thanked him for allowing the US to import volkswagens.
He also pressured PM Churchill to stop bombing raids on the Continent and to allow Germany to retain the counties of Kent, East and West Sussex, Essex, Surrey, and Norfolk

After years of speculation & complaint, the Treasury has put a figure on the loss represents by the UK's failure to establish the sort of oil-revenue fed sovereign wealth fund the Norwegians have built.

The estimate is that that fund would likely be worth around a £1 trillion, but instead the funds from peak earning in the North Sea were deployed by Margaret Thatcher to fund tax cuts....

One more reason to see Margaret Thatcher as a wrecker of the UK!

An American investor and real-estate attorney turned international envoy for the USA (I kid you not) has just called Vladimir Putin "a humanitarian". While Putin continues to bombard Ukraine. And then THANKED him for allowing the US to import Russian diesel.

It also remains way past time to make any US government contracts with Elon Musk's companies contingent on his not having any further role with them.

Make the majority shareholders in SpaceX choose between Musk and their money.

Cratering #oil use in #China shows the death spiral that could end oil
New numbers released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China tell the tale: in Q2, oil use dropped by a whopping 9%, and an even more incredible 16% for transportation.
Combined, drop in oil use was enough to pull Chinese #CO2 #emissions down by 1%. A large portion is due to boom in #electricvehicles and collapse in ICE vehicle sales, meaning transportation is simply getting more efficient.

If I have not made it explicit enough with this thread, one should read all of these thoughts with the mystique of *The Apprentice* in mind.

The use of quotes in the previous post around case studies is justified by the author's critical examination within the editorial of how case studies are made and used in business schools as opposed to medicine or law.

The author interrogates the societal/educational justification for business schools, and looks at teaching "case studies".

"Before Enron’s fraud was exposed, its business model was presented in admiring terms by at least five H.B.S. case studies. More damning still, the strategies that later led to its collapse — its asset-light model, its trading platform — were portrayed as innovations. Questions about deregulated energy markets, revolving-door oversight and opaque accounting went unasked."

Abolish business schools? Yes!

"In both the United States and Denmark, firms that appointed managers with business degrees cut wages and reduced labor’s share of income. Yet these companies didn’t become more productive, nor did they grow sales, investment or employment any faster. What registers as managerial acumen turns out to be wealth transfer — value moved away from workers and toward profits, shareholders and executives."

And nations that put MBA's in charge?
