Find new cross stitch project to work on. Typically I only have one of the thread colours needed! Seriously, out of all the drawers of thread I have, how come I never have the ones I need!
Two orders placed at different needlework shops, one at Art and Designs, the other with Lakeside Needlecraft. I wonder which one will arrive first 🤔
Good thing I was paying attention. Nearly enjoyed a wet slap in the face. 😎
Good morning everyone.
Sleep, pah, who needs it? Well me, but I'm not going to get any today!
Got the boiler service today and Fife Council being what they are, they don't give you a time, so it could be any time between 8 and 4. Which means I can't do anything all day. I'm frantically trying to get chores done early, having a little break to have a cuppa. I really hope the boiler person is early, I am really not in the mood for wasting a day.
In fact, yes, I really am in a mood today. I ended up getting really ratty yesterday, then was awake in pain during the night, enough to have me crying out. Then getting up to a heap of chores to do and of course nobody around to help, well, its not exactly making me cheerful. Add to that the lack of sleep/pain thing and my brain is replaying every little thing that has annoyed me over the past 5 years to the point I just want to scream and scream and throw things, throw all the things. So it would appear that I am going to have an unhinged day. Deep joy, it might be safer if I stay offline for a while.
Have a fab day everyone 🙂
They added little flood barriers in the park, and someone adorned most of them with faces so they’re giant friendly park worms now
Pot of veg is prepared for later on, so I will hopefully be able to eat properly later on.
The wind is picking up again here, the cats are not impressed with it.
Checked the tutorial video for the cardigan I'm making, just checking I had set up for the ribbing correctly and it turns out I have. So time to settle down and crochet for a little while.
Stormy Winter Blues....
Woke up this morning.
Looked out of my door.
Found a trampoline.
I never had before.
😁
Good morning everyone.
I hope everyone being hit with Storm Boelo is doing okay. I have seen some videos of hellish flooding in Largs, photos of trees down all over the place. I imagine there are power cuts galore. Its been kind of okay here, some ominous creaking at the back of the house, too scared to look right now, I will be very glad when this wind buggers off.
Plans for today include coffee, all the food because apparently I'm starving, a nap, maybe some crochet if the stupid pins and needles in the arm give it a break, gaming and then staying up too late to watch the F1.
Have the day you need to, be safe!
This building near Waterloo Station was once the terminus for the London Necropolis Railway, a venture that aimed to reduce pressure on the capital's burial grounds by transporting bodies to the enormous Brookwood Cemetery in Surrey. Funeral trains carried coffins and mourners (tickets had to be purchased for both) to Brookwood in around 50 minutes. The cemetery had separate stations for Anglicans and Non-conformists and trains and waiting rooms were strictly segregated on class lines. At the London station, corpses were laid out in a chapel room so people who couldn't make it out to Brookwood could pay their respects. A steam- powered lift would then convey the coffins up to the platforms. The London Necropolis Railway was, however, not as successful as had been hoped and was wound down after the London terminus was badly damaged in World War II. #history #gothic #folklore #death #railways #weird #London #Victorian #Halloween #31DaysofHalloween #steampunk
Good morning everyone 🌞 The Calm before the Storm at the moment as Ziggy and I have a cosy wee cuddle ... well mostly. She just ran up my arm and across me to attack my right hand, then went back into my left and cuddled up again. No idea what my right hand did to offend her so badly. Parrots eh? 🤷🏻♀️
She's the one I'll be concerned about if we do lose power due to the storm though. Trying to keep a naked wee parrot with heart disease warm when there is no heating is a challenge to say the least. We can't use a calor gas heater or anything like that, because parrots. If it gets really cold I have a plan to transfer her to her travel cage, cover it up and put hand warmers under her paper at the bottom..I bought a box of 40 of them just in case 😊
It's BG3 day so hopefully we'll get some time to play. Grant's managed to get himself into a tizz over the coming storm - he's a terrible worrier and has been anxious all week - so he might not feel like playing, but we'll see. Maybe some time in Baldur's Gate will be just what he needs to take his mind off things.
Have a very lovely day, whatever you get up to and if you are in the UK remember the clocks go back tonight 🤗
Good morning lovely ones.
Yesterday was a mostly good day, I was very tired though and didn't stay up for free practice 2 (F1) because fuck that, I can't be awake that late. Obviously I was in bed too early and my body started protesting around 3am, I got up at 4.15am. Coffee has been had, I think I might need a lot more to get through the day though!
I have a mountain of chores to get through this morning. I don't think the nephew is coming home from work because Storm Boelo is likely to close the bridge and he wouldn't get to work tonight. Which means I need to venture out for milk.
Once I've done the chores and showered, I might see if I can get some crochet done, now the cardigan is stitched together, I want it finished! It is really exciting to have crocheted something I can wear!
Time to get busy!
Have a fabulous day everyone 🙂
Stained Glass
Getting into The Hobbit theme of today, I am now making second breakfast!
Progress, it looks like a cardigan!
Ribbing is done on the cuffs.
Next up is to seam the sides of the cardigan and the sleeves. So that will be done shortly. After that it is onto more ribbing around the bottom of the cardi and the front. Deep joy, not looking forward to that, mainly because I have to concentrate on ribbing. Then it will of course be finished off with pockets!
I am mighty chuffed at how this is turning out considering I am very new to crochet. It would probably have been finished ages ago if I had more focus (and didn't have multiple other projects on the go).
I should get this near completion today while sitting in bed and watching The Hobbit trilogy!
This lovely cuddly couple is a pair of shingleback skinks. And yes, these two are in fact a couple, and they are in fact cuddling.
Closely related to the blue-tongue skink, shinglebacks form lifelong monogamous pairs. They don't live together all year, but in the spring a bonded couple will track each other down (sometimes over very long distances), mate and raise a young or two, and then part ways until the next year. After they meet up and before they start mating, they usually have a 6-8 week long period of the most absurdly cute behaviour - they nuzzle and nudge each other, lick each other's faces, and snuggle up next to each other.
Their newborn are *enormous* (roughly equivalent to giving birth to a four-year-old), and the father is on guard duty while the mother recovers. While he doesn't help his young forage (no reptile does), he does watch over them and will defend them against predators. In the period where he's guarding first his mate and then his kids, he doesn't usually eat anything himself ... for about 2-3 months.
The mother is unable to eat near the end of the pregnancy (due to the enormous embryos), and has to focus on recovering and feeding afterwards.
They live for 50+ years, and if a shingleback dies, its mate will often sit vigil over the dead body for up to a week, and will often refuse to eat for months afterwards.
Managed to catch this photo, someone in a full body skeleton costume and a black cloak and scythe, striding boldly down the sidewalk.
I was very amused when they crossed the street and ignored the "sidewalk closed" sign and just kept going.
Good morning lovely ones.
Friday is here and its race weekend. How in the hell am I meant to stay awake for F1, so inconsiderate of it to be on in the evening 😂
Todays plans are crochet and The Hobbit, never got round to watching The Hobbit yesterday. Today I shall sit in bed and watch all 3 of the films, while drinking lots of tea. Since the weather is meant to get pretty damn grim, it sounds like a good plan!
Stay safe if you are due Storm Austen, which will be swiftly followed by Storm Boelo. It could be a *fun* weekend 😬
Have a lovely day everyone!
Some gaming done, didn't bring the usual satisfaction.
Breakfast been eaten, now feeling woozy.
Hot water bottle has been filled.
Time to put the feet up and crochet, 3 more rows on the sleeve and then its the annoying ribbing time!
Stunning meet.
My Uke band were entertaining residents at a Glasgow care home yesterday & we meet a 101 year old man in for respite care.
Still plays bagpipes, conversationally on the ball + we shared common early careers in shipyards and Merchant Navy. (20 years apart I should add 😂)
He’d played bagpipes all over the world.
Couldn’t wait to get out of care home & back in his daughter’s care.
An amazing guy. Very uplifting to meet and chat with.
Someone would like to speak to a manager about being left behind by himself while @g1m01982 and I are both at work
