I had entirely planned to sleep in this morning, but the Sunday sunrise light called me out to the dock.

My wife is leaving me.... for a week in Toronto starting tomorrow. Every 30 minutes or so I'm getting instructions on how to manage the pets or how to stay alive while she's gone. There are 2 pages of additional instructions on a clipboard on the kitchen island.
Is she going overboard?
(Boost for science)
When selecting pumpkins this year I found one with a weird bulge on the side and immediately knew it needed to be the nose of a cartoony face.
How old is "middle aged"?
I'd like to replicate an experiment I learned about on an episode of #StarTalk this morning...I'd like for people to vote for either A or B, but in the end I need %95 of everyone to vote for A, and only %5 of everyone to vote for B. So vote how you would normally vote if just presented with options A or B
And please boost widely!
conclusion: the original experiment had about a 75/25 split, and we ended up with 2/3 and 1/3, far from the %95/%5 needed. This tells me what we all already know...Mastodon is home to a larger percentage of independents and creative people!
I wrote this important thread, please read if you can and boost for visibility. :boost_ok:
Here's how to react if someone is having a generalized tonic-clonic seizure in front of you!
Different situations are taken into account to give as much info as possible.
Rouge: Canada's First National Urban Park
Rouge National Urban Park is a unique blend of nature, agriculture, and history within Canada's largest metropolitan area. It's the only national park containing active farms, some of which have been worked for generations. It protects Toronto's last-remaining Class 1 farmland alongside vital ecosystems and significant Indigenous archaeological sites. #Canada #RougePark #UrbanPark #Toronto 🇨🇦
Just curious, please boost for visibility. Especially outside the blindness sphere. What type of device do you primarily use Mastodon on and via what method? Check your most frequent usage, only check multiple types if it's a pretty even split. Please check a device type and a method, one of each pair of options.
Well, it's good that in two days this petition (e-7686)* has gotten 57 more signatures. Still, it needs another 97 to be certified for presentation to parliament. And the initial inflow of signatures from the attention here on Mastodon is starting to fade.
There is another e-petition about health care in Canada (e-7691)**. This one has gotten enough to be certified, and in fact has gotten much more (7,722). And that's great. However, I feel the petition is rather vague, and thus I expect pablum from the government when they are required to answer it.
What I like about petition e-7686 is its specificity. If it does get certified, it'll be hard for the government to offer pablum in response to it.

@ascentale @bikenite A8. As I mentioned in A1, I got my repaired Brompton back on Wednesday. On Thursday I took it to Toronto via GO Train for a medical appointment. That was wonderful, though University Avenue was torn up and under construction. I like to think that biking and training to cancer treatment is kind of badass. 🤣🚴♀️❤️
We were notified this week that our new Subaru Uncharted has been ordered and delivery should be mid to late January. So it's time to get serious about choosing a level 2 smart charger. I'm looking for #Canadian #Mastodon advice from those #EV owners who have installed a home charging unit. Based on your experience, what features or app functionality is really important?
Hopefully my research and crowd sourced input will help me make an excellent choice.
Important e-petition. It's to call upon the Government of Canada to enforce the Canada Health Act and stop Ontario & Alberta (and any other province) from extra billing and privatisation of heath care services that should be publicly funded.
Please sign. It needs 500 signatures to be certified, and currently has 3̶4̶6̶ 2,735.
The next step: reach 3,000 signatures.

Men only please (women, please boost)
A woman you've never met before is walking past you and suddenly complains of chest pain, clutches her chest, goes down, loses consciousness. You establish she has no pulse.
Someone has fetched the AED
It has two pads that you need to position on her chest - one on her right side below the collar bone, the other on her left, just below her breast
(Please boost for coverage)
You will
My husband and I drove up to the White Mountain National Forest yesterday. So worth the drive, especially this time of year. 🍁
Men understand consent.
If you agree to a boxing match and your opponent continues to hit you after the bell, that's assault.
If you agree to a boxing match and your opponent suddenly whips out a gun, that's assault.
If you agree to a boxing match and your opponent and six of his buddies all climb in the ring together, that's assault.
If you agree to a boxing match and your opponent drugs you and hits you after you pass out, that's assault.
So let's stop pretending like men have no idea where the line is between consent and assault. They know. They just don't care.
Simple Yes / No poll. Comments and respectful discussions are always welcome. Please boost for totally unscientific reasons.

Do you trust online/internet based voting for government elections.
I am an indigenous person.
My mother called us Indians.
So did my classmates.
In the pecking order that existed at my elementary school that fact put me squarely at the bottom until the first black people came to our school. At that point I shared the bottom of the order.
Being Indian was lower than being a poor white person.
Meet my grandmother.
She was sent to Carlisle Indian Boarding School with her siblings. They were all tough as nails.
She didn't stray far from the reservation again after she made it home.
She did live with us one summer.
All of my cousins came with.
She taught me that life was too short to waste it hating the people that hated us.
Instead she taught me to write poetry.
The Wailaki people were almost exterminated.
But not entirely because here I am.
She would have been amused that we have Indigenous Peoples Day now I think.
