Re:
I want a nickname for all of us who are enthusiastic about free open source stuff and/or fediverse and or foss or public no capitalist social media etc!

I'm brainstorming, I'm reminded that borrowing from (example- Latinx) cultures which I'm not from is cringy at best but more likely complicit with a colonialist practice of taking and twisting something for selfish reasons, without honoring that tradition or giving anything back.
(Too bad because "FOSSalleros" was my fave!)

Re: nicknames for (free-Libre) opensource and/or fediverse enthusiasts

I kinda like calling us "Foss-iles" because I'm actually kinda old, but it might not be seen as a positive/affectionate implication to some.
(I do love the similarity to "facile" especially since it is often quite easy but the "rest of the world" thinks u have to be an ubergeek to be on here 😂😉)

Foss-anistas would be imho a racist co-opting just like all the other trendy gringos. (¡Soy Blanco y no hablo Español! 😂)

⚠️ Confirmed: Russian social media network VK (VKontakte) is currently experiencing a major disruption, with metrics showing connectivity at 56% of ordinary levels. The incident comes amid reports of a Ukrainian drone attack in the vicinity of its St. Petersburg data center

Ok so, what's the nickname for "us" here?
Foss-ites? Fossies?
(That could be a not too the great scientist so, yay)
Feds and Fossters both may be confusing in an uncomfortable way for some.
Fossiles?

Oof. OK, and the monthly quality check report was also worked down. 56 apps received updates to their metadata: translation URLs added, fastlane additions, and more. Plus further devs have been reached out to with suggestions for improvements (mostly on reducing APK size).

We give our best to provide you with the best quality we can! 🤗

⚠️ Confirmed: Live network data show a significant reduction in internet connectivity across the US territory of #Guam corresponding to power outages as Category 4-equivalent Super Typhoon #Champi passes the island; observed connectivity is now down to 41% of ordinary levels

European diplomats attacked by Israeli settlers in West Bank

The Israeli military condemns the violence but the prime minister's office says it is part of a "smear" campaign.

[PROPOSAL] Every vulnerability report < HIGH is immediately public

With desperate times, comes...

https://github.com/curl/curl/discussions/23458

I spent my whole Saturday triaging vulnerability reports and yet, at the end of the day there are a few more submissions in the inbox than when I started this morning...

What a ride. 26 Reproducible Builds today – more than half of them failed, each picking a different error: APK built from a non-existing commit, wrong gradle hash, secrets that were not supposed to be there… you name it.

Was lucky, got them all fixed – which is not a given. But phew, that took more time than it should, with so many of them 😢

Now counting 13 since this morning...

Google allowed a fake malware app disguising itself as Google Chrome onto the Google Play Store and even allowed the dev to use their ad platform to push it above its own official listing:

Tell me again why we should trust this company with "protecting us from malicious apps"?

We can all be different and not care about it. Our friends understood that a long time ago.

#Mobilizon is now maintained and developed by the Kaihuri team. #Framasoft passed the project to this new team after completing its mission, and still runs the mobilizon.fr instance.
Like Framasoft, #Kaihuri is a French non-profit and a member of the CHATONS collective. The goal stays the same: a free tool to organize events and groups without big platforms.

You can follow the official account @mobilizon for announcements.

First post ever on this platform. Ditched Facebook after my morals wouldn't let me remain associated with anything Zuckerberg, ditched Twitter after the South African nazi bought it. Tried Bluesky but it's not really to my taste. It seems to be full of people wanting huge amounts of followers but can never post anything of their own. Stumbled over this place after ditching my Chrome bowser for Vivaldi.
