I hate the term “forward-deployed engineers” as much as I hate and hated the term “growth hacker,” back when that was the current fad.
It is funny, though, that we now use the term “engineer” instead of “hacker.” I think it suggests that we are in the era of confidence men. Today is all about the appearance of “I know what is going on”; the harsh truth is that no one knows what is going on, but the con-men claim to know.

@gausby @zzt I agree and I will add that I hate all the military cosplay terms in the industry. "taskforce", "war room", etc, etc.
These dudes should grow the fuck up.

@ainmosni @zzt I don't mind the use of precise terms. Actually, I prefer it. Working with *real* engineers and people with a military background can be a breath of fresh air.

@gausby Nothing wrong with precise terms, but if we're going to model our terms after anything, I'd much rather model them after hospital terms. If we're going to cosplay, I'd rather cosplay saving lives rather than taking them.

@ainmosni @zzt sure. But you'll end up with “nasty” terms as well. The nature of a triage is not exactly “pleasant.”

@gausby My problem is not the nastiness of the terms, but the insecure masculinity of the army terms, used by guys who want to use fighting terms because they sound more "manly".
