Golden Sky

It's late November, and the temperature has hovered around freezing point all day. The sun is currently at today's zenith at 6° above the horizon in the south.

Over the eastern sea, a cloud bank is collecting colour from the low light.

Hamarsfjörður in eastern Iceland. On the left is Krossanesfjall, 716 metres / 2349 feet tall and the highest peak on the right is Snjótindur at 802 m. / 1358 ft.

A colour photo of a seascape with snow-capped mountains in the distance. The sky is heavy with cloud but just above sea level is a gap where sunlight is streaming through, turning the clouds and the ice fields on the mountain slopes to a soft golden colour. The foreground is the shore of a fjord, rocky and with brown grasses. The expanse of water beyond is pale cyan, but is picking up a little of the colour from the sunlight. The mountain range is rugged with dark rock on the exposed edges where the wind has cleared the ice.
