    We regularly have jackdaws (kauwen) in our yard, chasing each other, hassling the magpies (ekters) or eating freely out of the feeders that we bought on promises they woukd “definitely will keep big birds out with our patented guard”

    Some days, 20 or 30 of them will scatter when we go outside in the morning. They eat the spilled seeds, eat bugs and worms, etc so we have a truce.

    Tonight, I found an injured jackdaw in our little pond. He tried to fly away but couldn't quite manage it.

    I thought maybe he was snagged on something, and was able to pick him up and make sure he was otherwise safe. No visible injuries, but definitely a bit freaked out. Could be over heated or something, so we got a box, a towel, and a dish with some water. Then we called the animal ambulance (dierenambulance) to come get him.

    Unfortunately, within about 20 minutes, the little guy died. The stress, some injury I can't see, or something else.

    I feel like I should call them back and tell them not to worry, but I don't really have a spot to bury a bird. So, instead I'm waiting on them to come to retrieve the deceased bird.
