Sometimes when you work on a project things get really serious. You realize, that there is no longer any room for fooling around, that you have to start behaving like a man. You have to put on your man hat. We call this the man-hat-on project.

@playdate This is probably some technical problem, possibly related to the ai bots scraping, but it does beg the question what happens with all those nice handhelds when PlayDate inevitably goes out of business or sells out? If you can't play without play.date website being online, it's basically built-in kill switch. Not cool.

I wanted to play some game on my PlayDate, a physical console that I physically bought to physically own, with games physically stored on its physical internal storage. But it won't allow me, because apparently there is a system update pending, that I need to perform first. Unfortunately, the playdate website, along with all of their update machinery, I presume, is offline at the moment, so the update fails. Good job @playdate

With the ai bros eagerly demonstrating how bad they are at basic computer security, you have wonder how many hacking groups already have control over their massive web scraping botnets, and are routinely using them for their own things.

I was always getting angry when reading cyberpunk books or playing cyberpunk games, at their stupid idea of "hacking", where you can just pick an arbitrary system out in the wild, walk up to it, and find a critical zero-day vulnerability in it in a few minutes, no matter if it's a vending machine or a military database. "This is not how computers work!" I would shout out loud.

Turns out they were right, and I was wrong, this is exactly how computer work now.

I really like glasses that have very thin frames, possibly even with no frames at the bottoms of the lenses, and that are made of very light materials. And I think we should really push that fashion, encouraging the kind of glasses that have no room for cameras and microphones in them.

There is research (because of course there is) showing that we buy different things if we go shopping hungry. But do we also cook differently when hungry? Cooking involves a lot of small, mostly unconscious decisions, it wouldn't be that surprising if they were affected by our internal state, no? And then is it better for us to cook hungry or is it better when we are sated? I would expect that when hungry we would prefer more fat and sugars in our food, so it's less healthy then?

Suppose today evening SETI or whatever has become of it announces that they have finally received an unambiguous signal from an alien intelligence, coming from an asteroid orbiting in the asteroid belt, confirmed to not be of natural origin, but otherwise not deciphered. What do you think happens next, in the scale of hours, days, weeks? What would you do personally?

This was a post about making web pages.

Back it the day, you could just grab some colored soil from outside your cave, and draw some stick figures on the wall, and that's all you needed to make art. And museums would take it and display it. But no more. We went and over-complicated the process. Now you need paints and brushes and canvas (just try painting on the walls, and they will call it vandalism), and you need years of studying about color theory and perspective, and practice with models, and still museums will not take it.

As always, to save on PCB size, I'm only doing one half, and the other half is on the other side of the PCB.
