UPDATE: Fiverr says it’s stopping all advertising on Twitter after the CCDH found many examples of advertiser content running next to hateful, misogynistic tweets and conspiracy theories from far right influencers https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/02/09/twitter-ads-revenue-suspended-account/ #twitter #twittermigration #technology #elonmusk
@taylorlorenz "This hateful content is brought to you by [major brand]. [Major brand]: we support hate."
@taylorlorenz just like the Founding Fathers intended
I just misread "Founding Fathers" as "Fondling Fathers" and am suddenly reminded that we must have separation of church and state.
(Time for more coffee...)
@taylorlorenz “hateful content and dangerous conspiracy theories from far right,” aka “tweets”
Twitter became an elderly joke faster than anyone ever saw coming.
@taylorlorenz Seeks like that was Musks plan all along. If only corporate America had some courage!
@taylorlorenz
The trajectory has been evident for a while now.
@taylorlorenz I mainly get ads for pot and psychedelics now (neither of which I use)
@taylorlorenz worth mentioning that lot of media content is built on Twitter reactions. e.g "Twitter users were amused by Ben Afleck at Grammys' Or 'Twitteratti slams AD after Lebron milestone' etc. As much as we want to think otherwise lot of buzz creation/following happens on Twitter (esp true for sports and celebrities)
@Sanjath @taylorlorenz start tying those "celebrities" to the posts that they are next to. If they went to dinner with those people it would be the same.
@taylorlorenz wait until the political and activist ad campaigns begin. so. much. money.
@taylorlorenz that’s kind of what I have been seeing and have been cutting away from twitter due to how my timeline is breaking and the recommendation and trending is giving me stuff I have no interest in.
@taylorlorenz because major brands are in this game too and very much part of the problem.
@taylorlorenz I haven't gotten any work off Fiverr in 2 years.
@taylorlorenz I'm shocked. Truly. 🙄
But this runs counter the gaslighting that they have the algorithms working to prevent that? 👀👀💨
@taylorlorenz I won’t buy from anyone advertising on that hellscape. I’m completely done. It’s Gab now.
@robinbrenizer @taylorlorenz
You might want to read the first paragraph of this article about Gab...
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gab_(social_network)
@taylorlorenz it boggles the mind to see a "genius" literally burn $44 billion l.
@taylorlorenz I have never seen any advertising by Fiverr on Twitter, only tons of very annoying spam for that site.
@taylorlorenz Shocking.
Seriously what did any advertisers expect? That "uncensored" Twitter was going to be a place of love and harmony and child- (or human-) friendliness?
@taylorlorenz I stopped my business ads on Twitter the second Musk took over. I don’t want my brand associated with any of that nonsense.
@taylorlorenz That’s good to hear. I use Fiverr, and would’ve hated to leave
@taylorlorenz voting with your wallet is one of the best ways to call for change
@taylorlorenz YouTube to twitter
@taylorlorenz Hate is easier to sell than empathy because we're just human. It's easier to hate those who you don't like that having empathy towards them.
@taylorlorenz Making money off of bigotry and hate. Huh. Where have I seen that before?
@taylorlorenz that's a good sign how tolerant of anything advertisers are. Majority of them I am assuming don't give a damn about the misinformation as long as their ad campaigns are generating engagement and visits to products.
That's the reality. It's sad but that's how it is. Similar to journalists not leaving twitter because that's where the eyeballs are. Only few dare to stand up and stick to their principles.
Someone better at photoshop than I am should start posting pictures of Tate et al. wearing whatever brands are still advertising there. That should help.
@FuckElon @taylorlorenz LOL!! That would be funny, and potentially effective.
I am dead serious that it would be effective. I do not have the means to do it but would collaborate with anyone who can photoshop half-well.
Something like "Andrew Tate tweets ...brought to you by Apple" etc...
"N words Tweets, brought to you by Amazon"
@taylorlorenz it's a grift
@taylorlorenz a street corner to yell from gets attention but it’s not interesting.
@taylorlorenz How many millions are there in 44 billion?
@taylorlorenz great story!
This is my favorite quote.
"Just 10 of these reinstated bad actors will generate billions of Twitter views, all of which Elon Musk can sell to household brands and advertisers, such as Apple, Amazon, & the NFL. Brands’ ads are appearing right next to Nazi-level hate & lies that can kill,” said Imran Ahmed, CEO the Center for Countering Digital Hate
One of the bad actors? Andrew Tate! He's in Romanian custody on charges of organized crime, human trafficking, & rape.
@taylorlorenz I don’t get why influencers on the left are still tweeting.
@taylorlorenz And that’s exactly why I block every single advertiser I see in my Twitter feed.
@taylorlorenz As are many tweets from 🇨🇦 Government Departments and people.
And they are also not on Mastodon.
