Lovely morning walk on deserted tracks up from the French side of the Col du Pourtalet towards the Collado de Astún on the Spanish border. The peaks at the back lead to the difficult peak of Balaitous 3146.

Spent 7 decades believing I was English. This week, DNA records informed me I'm 41% Scottish and 39% English (the rest a northern European/Scandinavian mix).

Nobody warned me. I've been drinking tea politely and queueing in an orderly fashion my entire adult life. Turns out I should have been doing something else entirely. I could have been wearing a kilt for fifty years. Instead I've been wearing sensible shoes and supporting English sporting teams 😄.

Of course, I knew my Grandmother was Scottish (Cameron) and the family had migrated down to Paisley from the Highlands. Does show me where my undying love of the those same Highlands and wild, remote places comes from though. It's in the blood.

You'd enjoy that and you'd find plenty of places to stay. Then maybe catch bus to Orgiva. From then on much nicer.

@setmeravelles@lgbtqia.space that's quite a low route and should be unaffected by winter snows. Passes close to my house in Lanjarón! Looking at the Durcal-Orgiva section .... a lot of road hiking though. You'll be on the main road for quite a lot of the time. Easy navigation though
