Can you name an insurgency that we prevailed against which was fighting on their own land for their country?Tanks are useless in urban combat. If your point is to just give up - obey in advance and don’t fight for your country- then I guess you’re free to do that. Lots of people did that in WWII @GeraintLlanfrancheta @Strandjunker

@Sfwmson That was the point of your rhetorical question “Do we have tanks?” If you’re planning to do something useful then good for you.
The answer to the example you gave is “No” - although the Native Americans were very effective in their insurgency notwithstanding the genocide they were fighting against.
Decolonization (including anti-Soviet) insurgencies are the frame of reference.If you don’t arm yourself, you’re just outsourcing your protection to someone else. There is no one else.
