Yes, quite probably. The current mitigation is that they don’t actually talk to the Internet. The smart meter runs a local network that can communicate price data. The problem is, once appliance vendors have built a comms stack to talk to that, some marketing person says ‘let’s add an app!’ And then it all starts to go horribly wrong.
