Thank you to everyone who's trying to remind us to enjoy this victory, even if it's not a perfect one, even if there's still work left to be done.

Fedi is heavily populated by neurospicy folk, and one of the things that's common is we don't have working reward centers in our brains, it's part of why our executive function doesn't work right

So we're used to being told we're not allowed to stop and enjoy our victories, because we don't do it on neuromundane timelines. We don't allow ourselves to stop because we're afraid we won't get moving again if we do.

But we need the rewards, we need whatever dopamine we can get from them, to fuel the work that comes next. And we need to support each other so we can get moving again after the celebration, because accessibility means ensuring no one gets left behind.

@deathkitten This is a sweet and sensitive and valuable reminder. Thank you for saying it. I'll remind my friends to take a breath and soak in the joy and relief.

@spiegelmama@infosec.exchange Given how many boosts and likes I've gotten, I guess I wasn't the only one who needed to hear it. It just hit me when someone boosted into my feed was like "I need a break from Fedi because of all this 'but there's still work to do' posting" and it hit me why we're like this.

We're all processing the trauma of living in a world not made for our brains, and sometimes we need to realize when our coping mechanism isn't actually helping ourself and be given permission to just breathe.

@deathkitten Yeah, maybe that's why I hated those "work to do" posts. Like... damn, we just voted in historic numbers. Let us savor the victory, ffs.

Animated GIF of former U.S. vice president Al Gore from the animated TV show The Simpsons. He's sitting behind his big desk in Washington D.C. next to a record player, and he puts the needle down, saying, "Well, this calls for a celebration." Kool and the Gang starts singing "Celebrate good times, come on!" from the record. Gore, originally voiced by Harry Shearer, answers, saying, "I will."

@spiegelmama@infosec.exchange And I get it now, but I also made one of those posts last night too, because my neurospicy brain only understands momentum and conservation of energy, as those are the tools I use to overcome my broken executive function.

It's hard to remember to stop and celebrate when you're normally not allowed to because society literally drags you over the coals when you do.
