    #google gave itself permission to serve us personalized ads based on the information we have stored in gmail, google photos and google drive, by allowing gemini, which can be connected to all of these, to use that information for ads as well

    undoing this requires clicking through at least 3 different settings menus:
    - in gmail, in settings > general > turn off smart features everywhere
    - from your google account settings, deactivate personalized search (1/2)

    - from the google photo settings menu, deactivate gemini integration
    - in gemini itself, deactivate integration with any other google products

    google's shared tanked to a minimum value for the last 6 months after the company reported that ad revenue from AI search was a whole lot lower than expected

    so now, ad revenue must be bolstered through some other mechanism. so gemini is being used as a sort of permission-washing mechanism. (2/2)
