@jesse @WizardOfDocs I think about this a lot. The androids in Star Wars all seem to store data locally-only and use strong encryption. This is the future/past we were promised.

R2D2 was a Jedi droid.
All the other astromechs on the naboo ship get shot off, not him. He can hack imperial codes on anything. He carries Luke's light saber and delivers it at the proper moment on the barge. He convinced Luke to remove the restraining bolt. When he meets Yoda that whole scene is old friends putting on an act for Luke. Who did Vader shoot in the trench run? R2, not Luke, when he said "the force is strong in this one".

I don't care how "replaceable" the parts were in the fantasy world known as star wars, but even in that fantasy world it takes a lot of skill to do repairs

@jesse @failedLyndonLaRouchite Also, farm boys might be more skilled than children of Coruscanti politicians but if one needed diplomas to repair the droids, the movies would have gone in a different direction.
Yeah, I know, both Luke and Anakin are Jedi, but that doesn't mean, they were born jacks of all trades.
