Two quick field tests to separate it from gold: streak (pyrite leaves a greenish-black streak, gold leaves a golden one) and hardness (pyrite at ~6–6.5 scratches glass and shatters; gold is soft at ~2.5–3 and dents). Beautiful piece either way!
