    I found this rock down by the verde river downstream several miles from horseshoe dam.

    I really haven't seen anything like this before. I pay quite a bit of attention and cover a good chunk of ground out here too.

    This is also after several heavy rains, which if this did wash from the desert it would have been in the normal-ish range where I spend a lot of time.

    Either way it has a strange luster. Not like mica, pyrite, or quartz. It does seem pretty soft and when scraped with tool steel becomes almost chalky.

    The black nodules break away easily and crush with tool steel into smaller pieces, they don't turn to powder though.

    The photos don't capture the luster well. It is more glittery, which I would guess is from the underlying crystal structure.

    Any ideas?
