I had to get my som a larger baseball bat, so did some research on sizing and what not.
Half the bats all the kids play with are 200-400+ dollars
What the fuck
I found a good condition rawlings machine (200 msrp) for 46 shipped on ebay.

If any of you lovelies have a setup for distilling water at home please do share.
I need to start giving the animals distilled water due to Emmie's bladder stone situation.
I understand how distillation works of course but I need to come up with a method for reliably distilling water on a regular basis now.
Almost feel like a steam juicer setup would almost be ideal here.
what is difficult about feeling better is I still need to acknowledge that I feel better but still need to figure out how to make that more consistent.
So even with really good feelings it is important to
feel them but to also figure out what made that happen.
in other other news, using nfs in 2026 feels not only strange but criminal.
Backing up a few steps.
We would, with 2 cats, 2 dogs, and a 2 year old, effectively move from OR to AZ seasonally. When in OR we would rent the house to travel nurses through a program. When in AZ same program renting to travel nurses. To be clear we were not making money off this. We were paying the mortgage, bills, and putting a few hundred a month into a savings account to address any emergent things.
So yeah, it was a total fucking nightmare moving 2x each year. Up until I got married I had moved a total of 4 times in my entire life.
We mutually-ish agreed this sucked and something needed to change. She didn't want to manage the rental in OR so we liquidated everything.
We bought this house that was _way_ out of our budget and burned *all* the proceeds.
So here I am enumerating all this because I have been thinking: is this what the rest of my life is? How much longer do we stay here? Where do we move, again, whenever whatever happens to trigger a move event?
Not only "is this my life" but over all this is so stressful. Friends I have owner a fucking house for the last almost 15 years and not stayed at any given one longer than 4 years. I mean completely ignoring the financials but what the fuck. What the *fuck*.
This all makes me feel sick. Hundreds of thousands of dollars gone. Forever. Places I loved gone. Forever. Now we just.. I guess wait to move again? How the fuck did I even get to this point?
As I vaguely mentioned before I am pretty overloaded recently.
I had spent from age 24 to 33 working hard and saving living in so cal so I could move back to Oregon and buy my forever home.
Then I met my wife, and all of that 100% was thrown out. Or rather I told her that my short term goal was to either work remotely or quit my job and move back to portland. Which that all worked and is what happened. We then also got married while living in pdx.
Rented there I think for 1.5 years. Then started looking for houses. Loads and loads is super cool old houses in super cool neighborhoods. Then she expressed she hated portland.
So we started looking on the coast. Eventually found something, bought it, moved, lived there for 6mo and she expressed she hated it. Lived there for 2 years total and sold.
Then found what to me was our forever home. In the woods-ish, still 10m from town, etc. We decided to try to have a baby. A year of infertility and it happened. Then she expressed she hated living there.
So during covid she bought us a house in Gilbert AZ. I didn't even see it and we had to maintain a tax residence in OR so by selling our forever home we basically got a shitty suburb house in AZ and a super fixer-upper in Astoria.
A year goes by and she expresses that the house situation isn't working. So we sell both houses and buy this house. Throwing away in the process a long term investment.

Also I just realized a symptom of depression is wanting to sleep a lot.
Friends, there are a lot of not great things happening in my life right now and I'm pretty sure I just realized I got the depression.
Well shit. At least I've been intuitively doing some healthy stuff to help cope with it.
I found this rock down by the verde river downstream several miles from horseshoe dam.
I really haven't seen anything like this before. I pay quite a bit of attention and cover a good chunk of ground out here too.
This is also after several heavy rains, which if this did wash from the desert it would have been in the normal-ish range where I spend a lot of time.
Either way it has a strange luster. Not like mica, pyrite, or quartz. It does seem pretty soft and when scraped with tool steel becomes almost chalky.
The black nodules break away easily and crush with tool steel into smaller pieces, they don't turn to powder though.
The photos don't capture the luster well. It is more glittery, which I would guess is from the underlying crystal structure.
Any ideas?
also I didn't intentionally add a closeup of Vi's butt but here we are

so apparently the boomer director person that almost exclusively shouts as a form of communication sent a 2:40am email on saturday demanding we prepare a "cloud audit" and have it on his desk by noon.
So when I say "I can't interact with this person on a regular basis" this is a canonical example.
The person who hired me would proxy this individual. That person has left the company. My contract I think is until october sometime.
I have no meaningful prospects for another job and I know it is going to suck finding more work but this is unacceptable.
Nobody in my life interacts with me like this and I am not about to start normalizing it now.
okay for real though do people equally hate proton now too along with bitwarden etc?
https://bamboocycles.com/product/jamaica/
I am still fascinated by this. The omnium clone style is awesome, but how would the bamboo hold up? Probably sensitive to gouges and scratches?
this is also me hoping that similar to the #python tag folks will be falling over themselves telling me 8 different ways to accomplish the thing.
Seriously.
Trying to search for basic ass web design stuff on the web is pretty rough. Pretty much everything is video content and or someone trying to sell you a certificate or class. Or it is so basic that it is aimed at people who have not used a computer before "these are the instructions you give a computer to draw a button!"
https://varlink.org/ i mean this is pretty neat. I am guessing a number of people take issue with this.
It sounds like v236 of systemd is fully migrating to varlink. Idk it is late and here I am reading patch notes and discovering wtf varlink even is.
I swear I just saw something today or yesterday about pathlib vs os.path for parameters.
I have forever done something like:
```
from os.path import isfile
def read_file(file_path: str) -> None:
if not isfile(file_path):
print(f"{file_path} is not a file")
return None
...
```
Which is fine, and returning `None` from there all depends on what you want to happen; should it raise an Exception etc..
So instead of `file_path: str` and passing a `pathlib.Path` or similar would be calling a method on the object itself instead of just calling `os.path.isfile` (or similar).
What am I missing here? Am I trying to be too creative about something trivial?
okay so!
Yesterday Collin and I went on a research mission to find cones on the mormon tea. Picture 1 and 3 are the tree that I thought was a mormon tea. Really I wasn't paying any attention to it at the time. Turns out it is more of a tree with bark that is closer to acacia or mesquite; it is not green. The spines or foliage or the plant are robust and sharp. I have some seed pods and blooms to inspect. I dunno what the name of this plant is though. I don't see these often. Not sure if thats because I don't identify them as unique or if they're rare / not native.
The second picture is another unidentified plant that has cedar or juniper type scales on the foliage. I have seen these before. I think they might get purple blooms.
Another interesting fact is that I am surprised there are at least two plants I can't identify.
I do not have the skills or drive to try and figure out how to circumvent this either.
Makes me feel real fuken smashy
wife: hey love I replaced the printer cartridge and it won't print still
reseat it, smack it... ugh I have to use my brain.
Get into the web interface: This ink cartridge is not using HP circuitry and is blocked from use.
Start doing a web search firmware versions and can't find anything put pages and pages of HP support threads about people complaining about it.
Fucking physical drm on a consumer ink cartridge? You couldn't make the printer more anti-consumer than this.
