Koolbiri, widely known to colonists as “Mailman Jimmy,” was a legendary Indigenous Australian barefoot runner from the Mirning people who served as the sole postal lifeline across the brutal Nullarbor Plain in the 1870s. Operating from roughly 1871 to 1876, he carried the Royal Mail between Fowlers Bay in South #Australia and Eucla in Western Australia.
