Man installs ‘placebo’ thermostat to let family think they’re putting the heating on.
A man has installed a fake thermostat in the hall of his three-bed semi in the hope it will prevent his wife and children putting the heating on any time they ‘feel a bit chilly’.

This 19th-century poster advertisement for the City Portrait Gallery, 22 Ludgate Street, near St Paul’s, London seeks to persuade women to get miniatures and profiles taken of themselves at the Gallery. It employs the comical verse, ‘HOW TO GET A HUSBAND’, which suggests that the way to a man’s heart is to present their lover with their portrait in miniature.

OPINION: Should we refuse to give the Bayeux tapestry back to France? Of course not! So why are we keeping the Parthenon marbles?
It is simply wrong for the British Museum to hoard what doesn’t belong to Britain. Let the squabbling end and the sculptures be returned to Greece.

Researchers reveal that this year alone, 48 prehistoric arrows have been discovered and recovered from melting ice in Jotunheimen.
While these finds offer incredible insights into ancient hunting, they also signal an urgent and sobering reality: the oldest ice is now melting, bringing humanity's oldest archaeological finds to the surface.

🍐This beautiful pear-shaped porcelain bottle from Japan is covered in a distinctive green flambé glaze.
It was made by Ishiguro Kōkō of the Sumida Pottery in Tokyo, named after the nearby Sumida River.
Flambé glazes such as this require high-firing temperatures and the exact results are not entirely controllable. They rely on many factors such as the thickness of the glaze application and the kiln’s atmosphere.

Operating from roughly 1871 to 1876, he carried the Royal Mail between Fowlers Bay in South #Australia and Eucla in Western Australia.
