I really am convinced that something snapped in the brains or souls of millions of boomers and gen Xers when those towers fell and they've been on a quest for revenge ever since, leading us right up to this point. They never got their revenge in a satisfying way because you can't really vanquish a diffuse ideology, and they've been looking for someone, anyone, to focus their anger on ever since.
