See that? (No, behind me.) That's something you don't see every day! That's...drum roll...the largest island in a lake on an island in a lake in the world. (You may have to read that a couple of times; it's that kind of thing.) Treasure Island, Mindemoya Lake, Manitoulin Island, Lake Huron, Ontario.
I wonder how good the cheap < $1k portable dental x-ray machines are for electronics work?
I’m gonna end up buying an SMU aren’t I?
I'm just going to leave this here is a reminder :
"... a $10 to $30 billion TAM industry pretending to be a trillion-dollar one. And because everyone's propping it up, because they have no hyper-growth ideas"
[despite their hyper-growth finance model]
"everyone's just pretending; it's the kayfabe of the tech industry that really has just run out of ideas." - Ed Zitron

Proud of my local dyke bar for taking a stand against transphobia
Edit. The additional context needed is Rikki’s is one of the home ground bars for watching and gathering with other dykes who are fans of the golden state Valkyries. There’s a wider struggle against transphobia in the WNBA, but Valkyries fandom would not exist without our many trans fans.
Realizing there’s not a lot of “real world” advice on how to implement independent watchdogs in RTOS, so probably should document how I’ve approached it (using semaphores) and what the advantages/disadvantages are of that strategy.
It's a pretty common D.C. story to have a massive industry on one side and basic decency on the other, and the industry has all the lobbyists because basic decency doesn't have an advocacy budget
Blue LEDs are so freaking annoying.
The reason that Trump, Putin, Satanyahoo and other criminal clan leaders want the ICC to be gone is that they fear that when people are not willing to uphoald their crimes anymore, terms will end, either by extraction, voting or revolt. They fear to end up in a concrete cell in The Hague because there will be no country to run and hide for. They know it will be the last stop before they be put in a hole in the ground.
--Maintain ICC. Justice for all.
"Escape" lets you press the button to hear a soundscape from somewhere far away: babbling brooks, ocean waves, birdsong, a crackling fire...
Honestly, if you work on lots of line voltage stuff, you really should try and find a Sencore PR570. It provides 3 things that are absolutely essential:
1. Full ground isolation
2. Variable voltage (0-140V, so you can actually go “over”)
3. Current trip
4. Tons of safety tests like hot chassis, leakage, etc.
I snagged mine off eBay a while back for around $400, which isn’t cheap, but as best as I can tell, nobody makes anything close to it any more, and they don’t make the PR570 any more either.
If people know of another piece of equipment that offers all this, I’d love to know! Sure, you can stack an isolation transformer, a variac, and a few other things, but … it’s sure nice to just dial in a voltage.
Note, I don’t think they ever made non-US ones, and it’s all transformer-based, so it doesn’t easily convert.
Cyme continues to be an amazing tool on Mac and Linux. If you work with USB, it’s a gift from the gods themselves.

Oh hey, the news media’s fucking around has come to be finding out.
This is what happens when you ignore obvious fascism.
I have read zero articles about Trump-era contracting scandals that name the contracting officer who signed the contract. It’s bizarre.

A 16 year old boy hacked an internal Microsoft system called TITAN with 17 trillion records as it didn’t validate JWT signatures at all, accepted ‘admin’ as authentication without a password and was internet facing.
They paid him $5000 and told nobody about it.

Ooo, the new Semtech LR2021 “LoRA Plus” chips do 2.4GHz, S-band satellite, and ZigBee/ZWave/Thread.
Also, realized DigiKey has this listed as 50MHz part (Kyocera AVX crystal), but the part number is VERY 48MHz, so sent them a little email. First time I’ve seen something like that.
If anyone sees a 2016 format 48MHz crystal, that’s mine. Sorry. Just went flying.
