@jascha no it was rather an opt out context, so it was applied before I have been asked if I wanted it.

Not sure why that is, maybe gotta do with the importance of signaling inclusion to your peers.

Because that is an interesting debate and I am not smart enough to have an opinion there.
That said, writing alt texts isn't hard, and why make it something that needs this thought, if one could just type a sentence or three.
Sep 9, 2026, 1:31 PM@jascha I still have an issue with it and prefer it when authors write alt texts themselves (that's how I do it). However, if an author doesn't/won't do it and there's no alt4you, I personally would consider the benefit of having at least some sort of alt text more important, especially given that the usage of image recognition software doesn't consume too many resources. But since it'd be absurd if everyone ran it on their own, I think an altbot makes sense.
But I dislike the effect where people stop writing alt texts because of altbot existing.
So yes, I'm very conflicted about this :3
